How many here would like a job like this?

Clerical workers, yes clerical workers, at the port of Los Angeles and Long Beach are on strike. I wonder how many Americans would be willing to suffer through a day's worth of paper pushing making this money and benefits?

Berry says the clerical workers have been offered a deal that would be the envy of most Americans: "absolute job security;" a raise that would take average annual pay from $165,000 to $195,000, 11 weeks paid vacation, and a generous pension increase.

So the greed of a few hundred clerks will probably drive more business elsewhere (ie, Mexico), which over time will result in a loss of US trucking jobs and other jobs supported by cargo at the LA port. End result, fewer jobs for US workers!
The problem is that, between a small number of greedy people AND in our unending search to get everything CHEAPER, we wind up shooting ourselves in the foot. Those few hundred clerks' missing paychecks will be felt in their communities and local businesses, all so we can save $0.01 on a toy at Wal-Mart. vomit

Years ago, business people were smart enough to know that paying people well meant that they would improve the economy and buy from other businesses who would eventually would get back to the first business itself.

Its pretty sad that we've sold out for a bunch of cheap products and fewer jobs, the only bad part is that eventually we'll have JUST cheap stuff, and no money to actually buy it. Mad

I am here just to answer the question and I would love a job like that! I said to myself when I graduated from school if I can start by making $40,000 grand with vacation and benefits I would be the happiest man in the planet now making what a clerk makes there I would consider myself an elite at that pay.

If I make $40,000 grand in LA (in a prestige area) I would probably barily manage alone. Here where I live $40,000 to me is pretty good, cheap rent housing etc. If your talking about the $160,000 even in LA I can manage for sure that is a ton of income to me. Right now I am not making a lot, but I manage well and I am pretty happy.

But But our Congress has the same base salary as these guys and they ONLY work 3rd of the year! They will be in session only 126 days and have 239 days off in 2013!!!

I dont see anyone raising an eyebrow towards congress for that! These guys actually work and earn their money unlike our congress!
