This years edition of Costco KS private label single malt is available in some stores in MA. Price $44.99 per 750ml bottle. It is aged 20 years and sherry cask finished. Seems like a great deal for the age for fellow SDers. If you've tried it, please share some tasting notes here.
  • Costco Item Number 650728
  • You usually don't need Costco membership if you are only buying liquor. At least where I am, no surcharge either, you pay the same as us members.
  • Due to state liquor regulations etc, some Costco liquor stores are operated by independent liquor/wine shops that may/can not carry Costco KS private label products
  • Call your stores ahead to verify availability if in doubt

Macallan was shown as the distillery in last year's version but the price was about twice as much. This year they might have gotten this from a different Speyside source.

Cheers.

to all you scotch connoisseurs... Im a complete newbie on scotch (more of a tequila connoisseur myself)... I did like glenlivet 18 when I tried it... my buddy also had glenfiddich 18 and it was ok...but I liked the glenlivet better... both were on the rocks (ill assume this is pretty similar taste wise to adding a few drops of distilled water since the ice will just melt a little???? but I could be complete wrong LOL)... tried chivas and never was a fan... was hoping to try the Kirkland but we dont get them in our stores in Texas....

so if I liked the glenlivet 18 what other bottles should I be looking for that have similar drink-ability?

I'd recommend Glenlivet 15 instead of the 18. Same with Glenfiddich, even if you didn't like the 18. Those are both under $50 and I think they taste better than the 18s. I'd also recommend Balvenie Doublewood (tastes closer to Glenfiddich than Glenlivet) and Oban 14.

If you want to try something smoky/peaty, then Highland Park 12 and Coal Isla 12 would be my recommendations. I'm not a fan of Laphroaig (because my stomach isn't), but plenty of people would recommend that, too.

The best way to find what you like is to dive in and start drinking (in moderation, I guess).

very true.... dive in and try some... my GF has a upscale xmas work party at a very upscale members only club that we go to each year... its open bar... so I plan on trying 3-4 varieties (its a work thing with a nice dinner...so I gotta keep it to 4 max..Big Grin )... im sure they will have 5-10 different bottles easy...since its an upscale members only club...woot.... I figured SD could point me in the direction of which bottles to drink from while I am there... then Ill go get one of the ones I liked

pictures please... I never heard of kirkland having tequila, burbon, rum etc... sounds interesting!
The jury is still out on the bourbon (7 yrs old, $19.99 per liter) because I tried it immediately after finishing a glass of the single malt. Worst case I will transfer it to an empty Evan Williams Single Barrel bottle and pour it for friends who usually drink nothing but Jim Beam white label. Both of the vodka's are pretty solid. The French is great straight up or in a martini and the American is a bargain for any other mixed drinks at $13.99 per 1.75L. I haven't tried the tequilas or the spiced rum yet. I recently finished off a bottle of Cruzan Black Strap Rum that is now my go-to cheap flavorful rum.

I'll post more prices as soon as I find my receipt...

I'm prone to impulse buys (note unused foosball and pool tables in the back) Big Grin If it weren't a 95 mile round trip to the DC Costco, I'd try to return about half of it. My wife is going to freak when the $800 charge hits our AmEx. On the topic of tequila, I can't say I've ever enjoyed it straight up. What's the proper temperature?
