iMito MX1 and MX2 Owner's Thread

APhamX 3,595 557 December 11, 2012 at 07:00 PM in Computers (3)
So many people have purchased the MX1 and MX2 android stick devices and I was planning on starting a thread with helping people with their new devices. Also I plan on showing you guys cool things I find and you guys can post things in the wiki for things you found as well. I will try to update this, but I'm hoping it will be run by a community like the HP Touchpad thread.

I currently own an iMito MX2
- Using K400 Logitech Mouse/Keyboard
- Wireless N With WPA/WPA2 (Works flawlessly, no connection issues so far)
- 1080p60

I'm currently still looking for a way to easily navigate it as like an htpc, maybe there's an app or firmware out there that is meant for this.

Installing Flash On Your iMito NO ROOTING REQUIRED

There are APK's of past dolphin browser APK's that allow flash that you can look into. (I haven't personally tested this myself)

Flash APK [xda-developers.com]

Firefox Beta [google.com]

Dolphin Browser HD APK [xda-developers.com]
Other Cool Apps

Nova Launcher
Music Visualizer

FAQ

Q: How do I set the device resolution?
You have to click on the top thing on the right, go to settings, and scroll to screen. On the right it will show you HDMI OUTPUT, there select your output resolution.

- Option to hide the notification bar at the bottom of the screen.

Update File [dropbox.com]

Password for file is geekbuying.com

Instructions
1. Unzip the file.and copy .img to root of your microsd card
2. Insert the microsd card, a dialogue should show up asking you to update the firmware, say yes.
4. Device should restart when finished. You can now remove and/or delete the .img file.

I have received MX2 and it works fine with wifi. Some freezing but works fine. So I wanted to connect through ethernet. Connected using USB dongle from SABRENT. The device is connected to the ethernet as I can see the new IP. But unfortunately it says not connected to internet. I am not sure the reason. Can someone help?
Things I checked:
I connected my laptop through same ethenet cable it says I connected through ethernet fine.
I disabled wifi on the mX2 to make sure I could connect through ethernet. But no luck.
Any help? Thinking of returning it if the ethernet does not work as the wifi keeps freezing.

Have you tried to plug it in the standard USB port on the stick? Mine didn't recognize connection on the miniUSB so I used the other port, disabled wifi, enabled ethernet, and it worked like a charm...Then after using it for a couple of days, I tested it on the miniUSB port and it worked as well. Smilie

Do keep it mind that IF your router is right next to the mini stick, there is no point to use the Ethernet USB dongle because it actually transmits slower bandwidth as opposed to the wifi connection, although not stable as the ethernet but it consistently receives 2x the speed (15 mbps vs. 7mbps) according the runs I get from speedtest app.

P.S See if your USB dongle is compatible for androids. I purchased Bobjgear and the one sold by geekbuying for my MX1 & MX2.

No, this is a custom build. It works by passing the rendering to MX Player. XBMC would not be able to play 1080p mkv files on the MX2 without hardware acceleration.

Hello, I just received mine yesterday. Flashed it with the Finless 1.5 ROM immediately got everything working fine. I have some questions:

1) Is it required to plug in the power adapter in order to power up the unit at all times? Because when I plug it into the TV HDMI port, it doesn't power up.
2) When I turn off the unit by clicking shut down, how do I turn it back on? Do I have to unplug everything and plug it in again to power on?

Got my MX2 a few weeks ago (actually a gift for my parents). Everything works great except, the internet connection speed (WiFi) is very unstable. Sometimes it spikes up to 20+ Mbps and other times it barely gets 10. They watch HD movies using Plex so I'd like to get the speed up if possible, but i'd rather not run anymore cables up to the TV (which is mounted on the wall). Are there any USB WiFi dongles that will work and provide a more stable connection?

FYI they have a Linksys EA4500 [amazon.com] and the MX2 is only 1-2 rooms away from the router.

Also, I got them the Measy RC11, which takes up a USB spot on the device. Since the MX2 has Bluetooth built in, is there any way I can use the internal Bluetooth on the device to connect the remote without needing to use the usb dongle?

Lastly, How can I get the buttons (play pause primarily) on the RC11 to function properly on the MX2 (with the plex app if possible?) I've done some researching (googling basically lol) on my own but haven't been able to solve these issues.

Thanks.

I have had mine for about a month now. Went to use it today and it's dead. Tried the Finless 1.4, & 1.5, & the latest rom for it posted on geekbuying.com [geekbuying.com]and can't seem to get the MX2 to fully boot.
The updated firmware from geekbuying claims to have improved the wifi on the device, I had the same issues with mine, but unfortunately I came across the site to late for mine to test the new rom.

So here is my advice..I powered mine via the TV USB...DON'T!!! or at least unplug it when finished. TV USB might be fine for a little while but with your TV being turned off and on so often it's not a good power source for a computer. I recommend using their power adapter or only using the TV usb when the TV is already on, and disconnecting the USB when finished.

The MX2 like the MX1 puts off some heat under load. The MX2 does have a "heat plate" for lack of better terms inside the case to dissipate some of the heat but it's probably not enough for hours of frequent video watching..like I did.

While it lasted I did enjoy the clever little computer, but now I'll be waiting to see if in4dealz responds to my email about the broken device. or maybe just build another HTPC and call it good for now.....

Could you show how it looks like on the inside and where you had to solder it to?

I sent mine back to them about a month ago, thank you for reminding me, I'm going to check the tracking once I get home tonight.

FYI, if you send it back, just ask them to send the device itself, you can put it in a padded envelope and it should be about $5 to ship back to China.

MX2 does not see wireless N network

Linksys WRT610N dual band
40MHz only
WPA2 Personal
WPA-TKIP or WPA2-AES

N network does not show up in WiFi list. have latest firmware installed on MX2

Any suggestions welcome.
