As far as Verizon getting in on this, it's smart. They can see the trend.
In just my experience only about 20% of the people I know still have cable. I guess my friends just aren't into sports, but I can see that being a draw for some people. Personally, I'd rather go to a game once a month than spend almost the same dough to watch it on TV. To each their own.
Plus, you pay...then you pay again by watching commercials. 1 hour of TV time includes a half hour of commercial time.
I save even more money not having cable because my kids aren't watching commercials and asking for tons of junk. The last few years they actually didn't want anything in particular for Christmas...that was so refreshing!
The sooner the old stodges figure it out, the more likely they are to survive in the coming years. We should have had A'la Carte channels for cable long ago. I'd gladly pay for just a few channels that actually have decent content.
I've currently got Netflix (been a member since 2001), had Greencine for a while, but they are slower to deliver to the east coast. Other players that have interesting content not yet mentioned are Crunchyroll (for Anime geeks like me), and Vudu which I have because there was a movie I couldn't buy or rent any other way. (Elmo's Potty Time, highly recommend for parents out there)
If only HBO would put out an online subscription service...I'd pay for Game of Thrones in a heart beat. Sigh...
