Is there a way to use a PS3 hard drive in a Xbox 360

28 22 December 24, 2012 at 09:46 PM
Not sure if I should post this here or the gamers lounger sorry if this is the wrong place.

My ps3 has been dead for months now and my xbox's hard drive just died. I know they are different devices but the hard drives are both 2.5" SATA drives. Is there a way I can connect the ps3 drive to my computer reformat it to a FAT32 format to where its a blank drive and have my xbox reformat it in the same manner that it re-formats a flash drive?
If so what adapter would I need to connect it to my pc/mac?

Thank you for any help you can offer.

Your topic looked interesting so I though I look into it a bit. It seems the drives for the Xbox 360 need special firmware in order for it to work with the system. Also, not all drives can easily be prepped for the conversion. My friend had to look for a specific drive in order to make the conversion easily. He also told me the drive should be a certain size, since MS limits on what size is seen by the system. For example, if you put in a 1TB drive, the system will only see and use 320GB.

Just buy an enclosure for it and use it as an external drive...you'll be able to use it for storage up to 32GB.

If you refer to your husband/wife as 'DH/DW', you're too old to be active on a forum.

If you ask for marriage advice on a(ny) forum, you should seriously reevaluate your life.

If you don't know the difference between 'their', 'there', and 'they're', I automatically assume you have a mental disability (same goes for to/two/too and your/you're/yore).

If it's the old xbox, no. The old enclosure only takes a specific type of hard drive so the sony hard drive won't work. And I doubt it would work on the slim if it's the same way.

It seems that there is no method to use the PS 3 hard drive in Xbox.If you don't want to do with the left PS 3 hard drive, you can sell it or give it to your friend.

I meant a USB enclosure.

you can switch out the internal drive on the 360. just unscrew, replace... i replaced a 10GB one to a 500GB for my jTag. Super easy...

but i heard that you can get banned from live from doing that... dont quote me on that though. been outdated from the xbox scene since getting my jTag box.

It doesn't matter with jtag boxes you can use any size hard drive. Internal or external you can use the whole thing. With the official 360 drives max size you can use is a 320GB since that's the biggest they sell.Like previous posters have said the official 360 drives require certain files ext... and that is what limits then to 320GB max.

Also if you use a jtag xbox online you are almost certain that you will be banned.
