Check out the negative reviews. only some types of batteries seem to work in this (the reviews all mention duracell as the only ones that work). I can't quite understand why... non standard battery contacts which would cause the outer plastic wrapper of a battery make a difference? slight variation in battery length? not sure.

Just thought I'd forewarn anyone with a stockpile of rechargables and have no desire to buy name brand disposables (like myself).

Toys R Us uses ShopRunner on a very few of their products... no idea why. But like a lot of videogames ever have ShopRunner.

i read just about all of the reviews. one person noted taking it apart and found that 1 of the wires connecting to the battery compartment was pulled lose (fixed with soder). another indicated that he placed a piece of aluminum foil on one end of the batteries to increase contact and it worked. still seems like a pretty hit or miss item from the reviews...

i would be in for $20, but think i'll pass for $30...

I bought a used one about 2 years ago. Stashed it in a box, and opened it yesterday. My four year absolutely loves it, and with fresh batteries it works like a charm. To me this would be a steal at $20 providing the new ones work the same.

I bought one this past Friday for my son who is three. He loves it. I paid $25 for it I think, with the $10 off $50 PayPal coupon. My son loves it. The remote control for cranky the crane is simple enough for him to use. I do admit, it's not the best of qualities, but it works. I used good old Duracell batteries with it, so I didn't have any issues. However, I had to change the battery for the train once already, and we are close to a second time. For $20 I think it's quite a deal. Will it last until next Christmas? Probably not, but that's why I get to buy him more stuff next year Wink

I tried to, and realized it was too much of a hassle to take apart. I was scared I would rip the top off. I just stand it up next to his shelf. It's really not as big as it seems
