If calling to make a complaint at 1-888-BestBuy, SPECIFICALLY request to speak with CONSUMER RELATIONS. Everyone else will give you the run around! Bestbuy will issue you a $50 GC via mail once they verify your receipt for a SINGLE ITEM purchase of $100+.

**I just spoke with the consumer relates dept. and they told me under no circumstances are they allowed to compensate anyone. This directive came down from the big wigs at HQ.** 01/27/13 15:36

Deal is DEAD! Promo was only good for ONE DAY, Monday January 21, MLK Holiday!

Original LINK finally removed from BB servers sometime on 01.23.13

Edit by ReanimationXP, 1/22/13 @ 12:24pm:
Deal is dead officially, but still working provisionally! YMMV.

A correction like this is false advertising! Don't let this one die so easily, SDers!

I just called 1-888-BestBuy and explained that the manager at the Camelback location in Phoenix, AZ was refusing to honor the deal of the printout I had, and warned this could bring about a false advertising lawsuit. She was very nice and helpful. I was trying to buy Amazon gift cards which she could not pull up online (I coudn't either), but she offered to mail me a $100 gift card and only charge me $50 for it. She also double-checked that I would be able to buy an Amazon gift card with my Best Buy giftcard once it comes in. YMMV, good luck!

EDIT: I just mentioned how they took care of the guy below me with the Keurig, and she sent me $150 gift cards for the price of $50 and express shipped them to me without me even asking! This is incredible! They really don't want a lawsuit Smilie

In the news:

Official Updated Coupon from BB Corp. as of 5:40PM CST:

Official Updated Inclusions and Exclusions List as of 3:30PM CST:

Directly from Bestbuy forum
  • The promotion is valid for TODAY ONLY, January 21, 2013.
  • The offer is valid on a single, regular priced item purchase of $100 or more.
  • iTunes, Amazon and other gift cards are excluded.
  • Limit 1 offer per coupon, per household.
  • See below for full list of conditions and exclusions: (read the Bestbuy forum link above for more info)
Ooops, we are losing way too much money, no freaking way are we running this for a whole week. We'd better cut our losses with "correcting" it to a 1 day sale, and while we are at it, restrict to stuff we don't lose money on.

Got $1600 for only $800.

PROOF: Apple TV for $45 (Woodbridge,VA)

$600 for $300

$2500 for $1250

READ the thread for latest info. Some people got denied when using the coupon.

What has been confirmed based on comment in this thread (WITHOUT manager override)
  • Doesn't work on sale items - Not true according to some but Bestbuy forum confirmed this. It is $50 off regular price
  • One Single item must be more than $100 - Not true according to some but Bestbuy forum link in the beginning of Wiki confirmed One item must be at least $100.
  • Doesn't work on GC - Confirmed to exclude gift cards by a Best Buy representative on Facebook, but YMMV

Note from a Slickdealer about gift cards: "Bought the Amazon GCs and manager thought $50 would be statement credit, told me if I did not get statement credit to come back and he would adjust. Did not want to play that game so returned the GCs and got a printer. The manager had to call their support team, and they said that it does not work on any GCs at all. (YMMV of course). It did not take the $50 automatically on the GCs but did on the printer..."
  • Doesn't work on video games - Not true according to some
  • Doesn't work on Kindle Paperwhite WiFi without manager override
  • Doesn't work on Apple TV without manager override
To qualify for the discount, MasterCard must be used on a purchase of $100 or greater. Some people indicate ONE item need to be over $100, but multiple people have gotten it to work with no override on a combined purchase.

Per the facebook page:
Quote :
Hi Amy-

It has to be ANY Mastercard credit card. Mastercard gift cards would not be accepted.

Pre-paid master cards may no longer work if the manager is in the loop

* I paid CASH... but had a prepaid Walmart MasterCard($3 fee) in hand because after the cashier and manager were done doing the override,
they paid no attention to the $50 bill I handed over.Just rang it up and gave me the receipt. Smilie
I think the reason is that the coupon didn't scan on the 4 $25 Amazon Kindle gift cards
and they had to take off the $50 manually. If the coupon had scanned, it would probably
not accept any other payment except MasterCard. Smilie

Other important details:

Not valid on any order, including store pickup.

Valid until 1/27/13

Email link: LINK

Link to PDF on Best Buy's web site: Here it is []

Let's see if I can post the URL as "code" and perhaps SD won't automatically bastardize it:

There ya go. Copy the link in the box above and paste it into your browser. The coupon is ON BESTBUY.COM.

BestBuy response on Facebook:

If you don't have a Mastercard, purchase a prepaid Mastercard from any store and use it. Read cashier instructions on coupon. Doesn't seem to have exclusions regarding type of Mastercard.

Valencia - purchased multiple blu-rays. had the LOTR extended blu ray set for $45.99 so price matched plus bought Ted, Sons of Anarchy, Legend and Red Riding Hood. Manager override needed, he came over and knocked down the price of SOA and LOTR to reflect the $50 off. Cashier had issues with the coupon, had to be scanned first but still needed the override to work. paid with best buy card Smilie not mastercard.

Tustin - Wouldn't accept the coupon on multiple items, it had to be over $100 on a single purchase.

Marina - As of 4 pm, my wife was able to snag two Amazon GCs (cashier and manager didn't care). I was able to buy 9 x 16 K-cups, even though the coupon said ONE SINGLE ITEM. The Marina Best Buy is really lax. It's probably because it's in a small town.

Atlanta (Perimeter) - Not taking coupon *today* "due to error in BBY system"
Duluth - Worked with Roku 2 XS with mgr. over ride

Owings Mills - Gift Cards of any type - no good (manager said no), everything else is okay (minus exceptions) (1/21/13 @ 10:01)

Frederick, MD (21703) - WORKED! needed mgr.. Wanted to buy 3 with seperate transactions, instead mgr took $150 off the canon 430 flash. (scooped for $111, down from $350 on sale for $255)
White Marsh, MD - The manager has asked all the associate to deny honoring the coupon because "the system does not apply the coupon correctly" . I talked to the manager and she refuses to do overrides even though I stood in line for 45 minutes.

St Cloud - I was able to buy the 24" LG LED HDTV Reg Price $229 SALE price $169-$50 coupon = final price of $119 + tax. I was THRILLED! They were very careful at first to make sure it didn't go against any of the restrictions but went through smoothly. I purchased at about 7:30p.m. Monday though. They weren't going to honor it any other day. There were signs all over the store and on the front doors.

Manassas (20110) -Worked on Canon lens
Sterling/Dulles - Worked with xbox 320 GB hdd upgrade without any problem
Reston - picked up the last 3TB WD Green. Manager was needed to process the order, but gave me no trouble about the coupon. Got it for $104.99 after tax.
Chantilly - picked up ANOTHER 3TB WD Green. This time for some reason, they gave it to me for $99.74 after tax! Apparently when the manager overrides the price, the result can be different depending on how they do it.
Woodbridge (22193) -Worked on Apple TV w/ Manager Approval at 3pm. Went back and they won't give any discounts to Apple products as of 6pm.

Bloomington (47404) - Did not work on gift cards. was able to use it on a Roku XS 2

Mishawaka - Worked on a sale Brother laser printer without manager approval. Cashier mentioned some people had tried GC's and managers were approving sales but stopped.
Lafayette - Worked on a Nike+ Fuel GPS Watch which was on sale by giving you an extra $10 BB GC at time of purchase.

Coralville - 1/21/13 8PM would not work for GC and was told "only one coupon per customer." Purchased a 3tb Toshiba external hard drive. $129.99 - $10.00 (on sale) - $50 = $70 + tax Manager override not required. Used Walmart GC MC.

Cascade Station - manager had to override on AGC, but seemed to be aware of the coupon and was honoring the terms.

Whitehall - did not work on gift cards, manager would not override.

Austin(78704 on Ben White Blvd) - did not work on gift cards, manager would not override.

Willowbrook(77066) - worked on Intel 520 120GB SSD drive. Coupon wouldn't scan but worked on manual entry.
Edit: They have stopped any GC purchase with coupon here in Willowbrook store. They are NOT doing manual override anymore. Whatever scans will be allowed only. Had to buy a kids DVD on top of Roku-2 XS to bring it above $100. Even school supplied or candy won't work Frown.

Florida: Jacksonville (St. John's Town Center) - Apple TV will not work. - Other items work

Howell - Didnt work on giftcards but I got 2 aqua pure filters for Samsung refrigerator for $100 - $50 total being $50 plus tax. Manager had to override but it worked and still a decent deal.
Howell - around 8pm had signs all over the door that it must be on ONE item equally 100. I walked out empty handed. Frown

here goes my story, ran this morning as soon as i seen the coupon. tried to buy apple tv, they wouldnt let me, so i grabbed a roku 2 xs instead, cost me $55 asked manager if i could do it again he said sure man theres no limit on here, so i got a wireless headset for my 360 and camera bag for $65, i didnt have any more coupons left, so i went home and printed up 6 more with the idea im going to buy all the hdds i need for my new raid, new manager there wouldnt sell me more then 1, and i even had my wife stand in line behind me, but she was using my mastercard the bitch at the counter realized it was the same name, already charged my card, and then voided it out afterwards like a real bxtch. so now i gotta wait 3-5 days for my refund . so i only ended up with 1 2 tb hdd for $65

oh well all in all i still saved $150 on the stuff, but i really needed those other hdd's.. gonna try again tomorrow i guess
wow, so the CSR gets called out (2x) for doing her job...classic Roll Eyes (Sarcastic)
More employees like that probably would have saved managers headaches and probably allowed the deal to roll on. She should be promoted laugh out loud

It will be interesting to see what happens at Best Buy over the next couple of days.

Not everybody reads or even knows about Slickdeals. EEK! There are many
people who got the original coupon in their email legitimately from Best Buy.
I was one of those. At the time, I didn't think much of the coupon, bu then I saw
this thread yesterday morning and rushed to Best Buy to TAKE ADVANTAGE
of it. All I got was $200 of Amazon Kindle gift cards for $100. (8 $25 cards in
two transactions, which the manager approved with a smile)

It is now 7AM EST on Tuesday. I'm looking at the original coupon that was in
my email. Best Buy corporate still hasn't sent me a 2nd email telling me about
the revised terms and conditions. If I had not read this Slickdeals thread, I
woudl probably be going to Best Buy today, only to be disppointed or p**sed
of when I get there. I'm sure hundreds, if not thousands, of other customers
will be as well.

My sister-in-law, a nice little old lady, got the coupon in her email. She became
a RewardZone silver last month. She was talking about getting a Cuisinart
food processor($130?) at Best Buy tomorrow. I stopped her and told her about
this thread. Imagine how angry her face turned. Frown Probably even angrier if she
showed up at Best Buy with the coupon. The poor cashier will learn what "hell
hath no fury like a woman scorned" means. In this case, scorned by Best Buy.
She is a like Judge Judy and Sarah Palin combined into one person. She once
made a Macy's store manager(a 6-ft guy) burst into tears for not accepting a coupon.

Actually, I do not watch such dribble at all. If I were such a litigant, I would expense:

1. my time at my professional rate(s),
2. my fuel costs,
3. wear-and-tear to my ride,
4. expenses during my trip (food, drink, parking fees, etc.)
5. any incidental costs that I could think up...

Judges usually give a victor a lot of leeway once you make your case, especially on incidentals, so long as they are not preposterous/outrageous in nature/origin. Using the above criteria, I could easily reach the $1k mark on a "$50 off $100" suit.
No offense, but the judge will probably say, if your professional time is worth that much to you, you shouldn't be driving to Best Buy and dismiss your case. But I could be wrong. If you really try to make a case, please let us know how it goes. Smilie

Went to BB in Tukwila monday night just before closing with intention of buying a SSD. Horrible selection. In fact only 2. 120gb and 180gb intels. Grabbed a EVGA GeForce GTX 550 ti , 2gb, superclocked graphics card. It was on clearance at $108 from $179.99. Presented a coupon, no problems. Paid with a mastercard gift card. Came out to $64.59 after taxes. Pretty damn sweet.

Kicker was you really did not have to use MasterCard for this. They took off the $50 at the register, then you swipe the card to pay. Coulda been any payment form since most had to get the coupon put in manually anyway. This whole thing was a mess, and people who went to print out 10 coupons are pretty pathetic just exploiting something they KNOW was not the intention.

They will probably have signs at stores stating that the promotion was either intended only for MLK day or that the promotion ended early due to overwhelming demand.

I could easily see a class action starting. The real winners in a class action are the attorneys. They do not care about negligible damages. But if they started one, they would look for a lead plaintiff who was induced by the coupon to come in and buy a $100 item for $50 but who was turned down at the register and paid $100 instead. Damage= at least $50

I know my comments in this post will get buried amongst the thousands of posts, which is good because I'm sure it will be unpopular.

Best Buy made a mistake with the coupon that could've cost the company millions of dollars over the next few days. Who knows exactly who/what the coupon was intended for but it's pretty obvious it wasn't intended to reach the amount of people it did or include the initial things it did. Best Buy is well within their right to change or cancel a promotion at any time - just like any other retailer. Sure everyone is quick to slander Best Buy about how bad they were blah blah blah, but fact is they offered something nice for a little while that many, many people took advantage of. The people that could not participate got all bent out of shape because they think they're entitled - but they're not. With few exceptions, this didn't ruin anyone's day other then the fact that you tried to get something cheap and failed. That's fine and all, but don't think Best Buy owes you anything.

I wasn't able to take advantage of this promotion and I'm not losing sleep over it because we'll all collectively move on to the next deal and so on and so on, the world won't end. Best Buy, while unpopular, is the last remaining major big box retailer in the US and if that goes away it would be pretty crappy.

It's easy on an internet forum to huff and puff but lets be real with ourselves for a moment and try to act at least somewhat civilized.

PS, I did laugh about the guy photocopying the coupon on the in-store printers.

It's amusing that someone got $2000 worth of GCs (wow) and that another person photocopied coupons for other customers. However, those stories also underscore why it's reasonable for Best Buy to issue a correction/clarification about a coupon.

They had already posted apologetic signs about GCs and other items being exempt when I went yesterday morning. They said I couldn't apply the coupon to a Kindle Paperwhite, so instead I bought a 2TB WD Passport portable USB3 HDD for $111 ($150 - $50 coupon + $6 tax + $5 prepaid MC gift card fee).

Still a slick deal.

Anyone else scored on the TouchPad deal (in 2011) AND this? (bought a 560 ti video card an hour after BB opened yesterday.)
I managed to get 5-6 Touchpads, then a couple more refurbished ones, and a bunch of accessories and flipped them on eBay and craigslist for a solid profit of around $800. I got $1900 in gift cards yesterday at Best Buy and a Kindle Paperwhite. Key to getting both deals was getting in early!

I still don't understand BB.

We take advantage of coupons every day that are not intended for items because the system accepts it. But at BB, the system is set up correctly yet their store managers override it. laugh out loud Just amazing...

Look, I bought $2,500 in amazon gift cards prior to the coupon terms changing, and in my purchase I abided by ALL of the terms set forth in the coupon. I fail to see how this is "abusing the system".
It's also legal for you to sleep with your husband's best friend, but that doesn't mean it's the right thing to do.
