If calling to make a complaint at 1-888-BestBuy, SPECIFICALLY request to speak with CONSUMER RELATIONS. Everyone else will give you the run around! Bestbuy will issue you a $50 GC via mail once they verify your receipt for a SINGLE ITEM purchase of $100+.

**I just spoke with the consumer relates dept. and they told me under no circumstances are they allowed to compensate anyone. This directive came down from the big wigs at HQ.** 01/27/13 15:36

Deal is DEAD! Promo was only good for ONE DAY, Monday January 21, MLK Holiday!

Original LINK finally removed from BB servers sometime on 01.23.13

Edit by ReanimationXP, 1/22/13 @ 12:24pm:
Deal is dead officially, but still working provisionally! YMMV.

A correction like this is false advertising! Don't let this one die so easily, SDers!

I just called 1-888-BestBuy and explained that the manager at the Camelback location in Phoenix, AZ was refusing to honor the deal of the printout I had, and warned this could bring about a false advertising lawsuit. She was very nice and helpful. I was trying to buy Amazon gift cards which she could not pull up online (I coudn't either), but she offered to mail me a $100 gift card and only charge me $50 for it. She also double-checked that I would be able to buy an Amazon gift card with my Best Buy giftcard once it comes in. YMMV, good luck!

EDIT: I just mentioned how they took care of the guy below me with the Keurig, and she sent me $150 gift cards for the price of $50 and express shipped them to me without me even asking! This is incredible! They really don't want a lawsuit Smilie

READ the thread for latest info. Some people got denied when using the coupon.

What has been confirmed based on comment in this thread (WITHOUT manager override)
  • Doesn't work on sale items - Not true according to some but Bestbuy forum confirmed this. It is $50 off regular price
  • One Single item must be more than $100 - Not true according to some but Bestbuy forum link in the beginning of Wiki confirmed One item must be at least $100.
  • Doesn't work on GC - Confirmed to exclude gift cards by a Best Buy representative on Facebook, but YMMV

Note from a Slickdealer about gift cards: "Bought the Amazon GCs and manager thought $50 would be statement credit, told me if I did not get statement credit to come back and he would adjust. Did not want to play that game so returned the GCs and got a printer. The manager had to call their support team, and they said that it does not work on any GCs at all. (YMMV of course). It did not take the $50 automatically on the GCs but did on the printer..."
  • Doesn't work on video games - Not true according to some
  • Doesn't work on Kindle Paperwhite WiFi without manager override
  • Doesn't work on Apple TV without manager override
To qualify for the discount, MasterCard must be used on a purchase of $100 or greater. Some people indicate ONE item need to be over $100, but multiple people have gotten it to work with no override on a combined purchase.

Per the facebook page:
Quote :
Hi Amy-

It has to be ANY Mastercard credit card. Mastercard gift cards would not be accepted.

-Jesse-

Pre-paid master cards may no longer work if the manager is in the loop

* I paid CASH... but had a prepaid Walmart MasterCard($3 fee) in hand because after the cashier and manager were done doing the override,
they paid no attention to the $50 bill I handed over.Just rang it up and gave me the receipt. Smilie
I think the reason is that the coupon didn't scan on the 4 $25 Amazon Kindle gift cards
and they had to take off the $50 manually. If the coupon had scanned, it would probably
not accept any other payment except MasterCard. Smilie

If you don't have a Mastercard, purchase a prepaid Mastercard from any store and use it. Read cashier instructions on coupon. Doesn't seem to have exclusions regarding type of Mastercard.

California
Valencia - purchased multiple blu-rays. bb.com had the LOTR extended blu ray set for $45.99 so price matched plus bought Ted, Sons of Anarchy, Legend and Red Riding Hood. Manager override needed, he came over and knocked down the price of SOA and LOTR to reflect the $50 off. Cashier had issues with the coupon, had to be scanned first but still needed the override to work. paid with best buy card Smilie not mastercard.

Tustin - Wouldn't accept the coupon on multiple items, it had to be over $100 on a single purchase.

Marina - As of 4 pm, my wife was able to snag two Amazon GCs (cashier and manager didn't care). I was able to buy 9 x 16 K-cups, even though the coupon said ONE SINGLE ITEM. The Marina Best Buy is really lax. It's probably because it's in a small town.

Georgia
Atlanta (Perimeter) - Not taking coupon *today* "due to error in BBY system"
Duluth - Worked with Roku 2 XS with mgr. over ride

Maryland
Owings Mills - Gift Cards of any type - no good (manager said no), everything else is okay (minus exceptions) (1/21/13 @ 10:01)

Frederick, MD (21703) - WORKED! needed mgr.. Wanted to buy 3 with seperate transactions, instead mgr took $150 off the canon 430 flash. (scooped for $111, down from $350 on sale for $255)

Minnesota-
St Cloud - I was able to buy the 24" LG LED HDTV Reg Price $229 SALE price $169-$50 coupon = final price of $119 + tax. I was THRILLED! They were very careful at first to make sure it didn't go against any of the restrictions but went through smoothly. I purchased at about 7:30p.m. Monday though. They weren't going to honor it any other day. There were signs all over the store and on the front doors.

Virginia

Chantilly - picked up ANOTHER 3TB WD Green. This time for some reason, they gave it to me for $99.74 after tax! Apparently when the manager overrides the price, the result can be different depending on how they do it.
Woodbridge (22193) -Worked on Apple TV w/ Manager Approval at 3pm. Went back and they won't give any discounts to Apple products as of 6pm.

Indiana
Bloomington (47404) - Did not work on gift cards. was able to use it on a Roku XS 2

Edit: They have stopped any GC purchase with coupon here in Willowbrook store. They are NOT doing manual override anymore. Whatever scans will be allowed only. Had to buy a kids DVD on top of Roku-2 XS to bring it above $100. Even school supplied or candy won't work Frown.

Coupon still wouldn't take but manager (different from the am, obviously) came over and fixed it no problemo. Smilie
Woodbridge - worked 2 min to closing, but they held firm to exclusing/inclusion list. Poor cashiers were hammered today, so I conveyed to them a heartfelt thanks
Howell - Didnt work on giftcards but I got 2 aqua pure filters for Samsung refrigerator for $100 - $50 total being $50 plus tax. Manager had to override but it worked and still a decent deal.

Best Buy is mostly at fault. But they are allowed to correct mistakes. I don't know why some people cannot accept that. Surely Best Buy handled this matter poorly. If you never received the e-mail offer, there is nothing to be upset with. If I were the one who made off with $12,000 worth of giftcards, I know I wouldn't want to show up again even if I wasn't blacklisted. If you received the offer, print out the e-mail and go to the store again. As someone said, if you talk to them nicely they might be able to do something as they did for me.
This reminded me of the B&N Groupon from a couple of years ago. That was quite a fiasco too but that lasted for a week.

Are you really comparing a bottle of shampoo to thousands of dollars in gift cards?
First of all stores such as CVS, Rite Aid, Walgreens all have freebies deals. The purpose was to make you go to the stores and maybe you'll buy something else. No store has hundred of bottles of shampoo in stock to make them lose few hundred dollars. But someone made Best Buy lose at least $600 buying $1200 worth of giftcards.

It's only considered bait and switch if you can prove you received the e-mail offer. Most other people never received this offer. They went on some deal sites and click on the link that cannot be found by navigating thru BB website. They should be taken down but the people who can get there are people who read the deals on other websites.

Remember all it would take is a public announcement about the mistake and Best Buy will be off the hook. Best Buy is allowed to make mistakes and correct them. They are not legally obliged to honor mistakes.
the BB people on their facebook and twitter feed stated that it was for anyone's use... also, there are several people here that rec'd an email and were turned down...if you make a mistake you fix it first, then you deny the coupon...you don't keep posting the coupon, and have people keep coming in with no signs whatsoever...my BB as well as others had no signage when all this was happening.

That's true. But then again you're talking about 10 truck loads of shampoo to make a store lose a few hundred dollars. Most stores do freebie deals on purpose to make you go to the stores and buy something else. CVS and Rite Aid have free after reward dollar deals all the time. But here we're talking about Best Buy losing $6,000 on someone who claimed to get away with $12,000 worth of gift cards on what's obviously an error on Best Buy's part.
The shampoo loads are reimbursed in full or partially by the manufacturers and there are some policies to let it happen and retailers also get bonus from manufacturers by redeeming valid coupons from customers.

And that's one guy...let's say 100 people across the country did the same thing. That's more than half of a million lost simply because of a coupon.
With things being equal, you will lose money much quicker selling giftcards at half price than letting people get away with free shampoo.

for all those who bought a gazillion amazon gift cards.... Can you combine gift card purchases? For example if i wanted to buy a kindle fire hd ($200), you need at least 2 gift cards. Can you use multiple gift cards for one purchase? Thanks
hell yes !! :d

well, they don't sue individuals. They will make you sue them, draining all of your cash in court.
They will contact the gift card authorization center to tell them that the gift card sales were considered as abused. The gift card center will then cancel the value. If the gift cards are not used to purchase products yet, they will disappear from the balance or your account.
If the gift cards were already used to purchase products not shipped yet, the merchants will cancel your order. If the products were already ship, the merchants have to decide whether they should recall the shipment, because they might receive no money from the gift card centers. If the products were already received, they would ask you to pay for it as the gift cards were no longer valid.

Gift cards (not gift certificate) are considered as cash by laws. Exchanging $50 for $100 in multiples may be considered as money laundry, and tax fraud if you don't have license and do not pay for those extras you get.
Then we could also have a lot of people buying these gift cards from ebay or gift card exchange sites and there are going to be all kinds of confusions and disputes. What a mess this is going to be if BB go through with pulling the balance back.

Who says you have to not only go to the store, but enter the store despite signs all over the door and everywhere else clearly advising customers how the new coupon rules work? If there wasn't any warnings whatsoever about the new coupon rules, then I might be on board with you on this, but that's just not true. The customer is made very aware there's been a change in how the coupon is going to be handled. Not only that it's all over their website.
no signs at either of the 2 stores I went to... and I'm not talking about the new rules..I'm talking about yesterday when the coupons were still active and no changes had been made...thats bait and switch...and again, the first coupon is still active and has not been taken down by best buy...and I haven't heard of anyone here stating they rec'd an email letting tthem know the initial coupon has been made invalid as of today...so there are still people that have the iniitial coupon and have no idea whats going on and will still go and click their email and get the 1st coupon since bb has kept it up....

I must of been the only guy to used this coupon correctly when purchasing an ASUS RT-N65U Dual Band Router for $74 after $50 coupon, $10 Rewards Certs, and a $2.74 BB GC lying around.

Next, some people are going to tell the moms not to use several legitimate coupons on top of legitimate store discount to get the price of a bottle of shampoo down to 20 cents.....because, because the store could lose money and it's not "nice". How big of a % off will it become "unethical" for you to go after? Big Grin
That's not the same thing, this promotion was one per customer and like many other times people found a way around this by either failure of a verfication system or lucking out by finding an employee that simply didn't care.

A better example would be a person grabbing all the free samples given at places like costco and stuffing his face with them because the person handling the stand wandered off or became distracted.

This deal reminds me of the newegg 20off 40 deal.

The selling dispute problems will fall into the abusers. It does not look good when those sue Best Buy and explain how they should be entitled for profit from the abuse in the court.

That's not the same thing, this promotion was one per customer and like many other times people found a way around this by either failure of a verfication system or lucking out by finding an employee that simply didn't care.
Show me where it says "one per customer".

WHAT!!!! Have you seen the stock today? It's a rocket!!!!! The rumor is they had a record breaking blue monday sale yesterday.
It is a play but if you are investing you wouldn't be touching that sucker cause they have too many problems...ie...this $50 fiasco.

well, they don't sue individuals.

If this is true I will feel sorry for anyone buying these GC from ebay. They'll be buying worthless GC.

There was probably some planning and intent to get extra store foot traffic when BBY decided not to email out a corrected coupon (only post something in their forums).... or remove/update the original email link or pdf... and their method of communication to the customer is a print out at the register... Sounds like they wanted to try to make the most out of a bad situation.
That is still not considered bait and switch. It is called a major f*ck up by some marketing dude/duddette at corporate. These type of deals are only bringing in the devils that BB is trying to avoid.
