I heard they closed Cedar Point - because they wanted to keep the kids away from Sandusky

We went last year during their Christmas event. My teens spent most of their time in the lazy river & at the ice cream shop with the other teens while my little ones had the time of their lives running around with wands, playing in the water park, etc. We had a 2 bdrm fireplace suite that was very nice. Overall, it was worth the room price which came with 6 wristbands & a pizza pack for us, but just be aware that you will spend quite a bit more $ before it's through.

If you do Kalahari, look for coupon codes. I know they're out there, because our schools give them out every few months. You save around 20% and the school gets a percentage for referring you. (They may be willing to give you the code just for that reason.)

I took two 12 year olds and wished I would have got the paw package.
We signed up for 1 package and had the kids share it. My youngest got to use the teddy bear coupon... My son got the wand... My teens got the candy.. It was worth it and we found out about halfway through that you can refill the candy as often as you like. At least that's what the cashier told us... I don't know what their "official" policy is.

The Traverse City location is GREAT!!! I highly recommend. We rent a cabana and hang out poolside all day. The cabana comes with unlimited pop and non-carbonated beverages. It also has a TV.

The kids love MagicQuest. Do not order food from poolside cafe (it's all greasy). Order take-out from upstairs restaurant...they deliver poolside.

Too bad the deals do not cover any of the school breaksFrown

As someone who grew up in Northern Michigan and lived there for 29 years, this is an awesome destination. There are really nice beaches in the area. They also have The Sleeping Bear Dunes which are very impressive.

For anyone considering it during the summer months, there is great golf in the area. There is plenty of swimming and beaches to visit. For the winter months, there is skiing, snowmobiling, and cross country skiing all within an hour drive. Take the kids, and take a baby sitter. Best of both worlds. Smilie

It's a large cup that you get to fill with whatever kind of candy you want. I'd guess that there were @ 20 different types of candy to choose from...maybe a few more. They have tons to choose from. Trust me, even if they let you refill it, it'll be tough to eat that much sugar in 24 - 48 hrs! Smilie

Our kids really like the extras that they provided... Scavenger hunt, bedtime story, etc. They get free tokens if they do activities in the craft room and that kind of thing. You'll get a flyer with their current activities when you arrive.

The current paw package doesn't look like it comes with candy anymore.

You'd have to call to verify, but if I remember correctly, you have a choice between the ice cream OR getting candy in a cup. You're given a couple of choices on the other items as well, but it's been too many months since we visited, so I can't remember what those options are.

The only other advice I'd give is to bring something to wrap up in at the waterpark if you go during the winter. The water & waterpark room are heated, but my little ones got cold each time they left the water and were just sitting on the chairs. On the bright side, it wasn't crowded at all when we were there. We didn't have to deal with lines and there were always enough inner tubes for the wave pool. They provided plenty of plates, glasses & silverware with our pizza as well which was nice.

Lastly, I'm pretty sure that the packages cost more in person if you wait till the last minute, so add it when you book the reservation if you're going to need it. There may or may not be discount coupons available for those... Maybe check retailmenot to see what's available. As I mentioned previously, to save $, we split 1 paw package between our 2 younger children and they didn't seem to mind. They just took turns with the wand. There was plenty for each of them to do. It took them hours to finish it.

Also, the restaurant/pub was just at the end of the hallway from our suite, so we had our teenage daughters watch the other two after they had gone to sleep while we had some grown up time for an hour. We met several other parents doing the same! It was really a fun weekend for everyone. I was just a little surprised by some of the extra fees when we arrived. (We were using a Groupon at the time.)

Definitely good for the younger kids. My 9 and 10 yr old prefer the bigger rides at Kalahari up the road, but it is usually packed and more expensive. When we went it wasn't crowded at all. It's nice for an overnight if your expectations are in line.

Ignore the misguided troll complaining about Ohio. This hotel was clean and just as nice as any other indoor water park we've been to (four and counting, I think). His observation is analogous to taking the rail from Atlanta's airport out of the city: look out the window and it can be scary in parts.

That's what I booked as well. I hope everyone in north east Ohio has school that day.

Just got back from GWL Sandusky. Spent a small fortune. Between building your own stuffed animals/ wand game/ arcade/ food... they really nickel and dime you (Not to mention the "resort fee"). Room was dirty. Some staff was really nice, others were beyond rude. Kids had a blast so I am trying to not be too disappointed.
