Manatee County sheriff's deputies continue to investigate an incident in which a man fatally shot an alleged robbery suspect Sunday night at his Bradenton home.

Two men were sitting in the carport of a residence in the 4200 block of 24th Street West about 10:20 p.m. when three suspects, dressed in black and wearing masks, approached on foot. James Brady, 26, allegedly pointed a handgun at one of the victims, ordering him to the ground, according to the sheriff's office.

That's when the victim, who has a conceal-carry license, pulled out a handgun, according to Dave Bristow, sheriff's office spokesman. Gunfire exchanged between the two men

Score one more for the good guys.

Surprise shooting drill shocks teachers at Oregon school

http://www.foxnews.com/us/2013/05...z2S9zWSaE0

Teachers attending a meeting at a small school in rural Oregon last Friday were shocked when two masked men wearing hoodies burst into the conference room and pretended to open fire.

I wonder how it would have turned out if one of the teachers had a real gun to counter the "threat"

I saw a show or video where the class was told to expect something and some time during the lecture someone ran in and hit the prof over the head and grabbed his laptop or something and ran off.

Then they took everyone's statements and compiled them for the next session and brought the guy in to identify him. It showed how bad witness statements really are.

That's been done in LE academy training. In one incident someone quickly walked into a classroom full of academy rookies and shouted the instructor's name and then fired off a couple of blanks. The instructor fell off his stool and the class of rookie cops absolutely froze while the "perpetrator" ran out. The instructor very quickly announced that it was part of the training and then they did pretty much the same exercise that you described. It was very effective. Fortunately they made absolutely sure that no one was armed in the class (it was academy rookies who were not allowed to be armed in class), and they had staff watching the rookies to make sure they didn't chase after the suspect and beat him down.....

Like you said, it certainly showed how unreliable many witness statements can be.

14 people shot at a Mother's Day parade. If only there had been 20 or 30 heavily armed "law abiding" individuals ready to pop a cap into the first person they saw with a gun...there would be 40 or 50 more victims.

“One of the suspects’ descriptions would be a dark-skinned male, 18 to 22 years old, short hair and wearing a white shirt and blue jean shorts,” he said.

Personally, I'm interested in keeping other people from building Utopia, because the more you believe you can create heaven on earth the more likely you are to set up guillotines in the public square to hasten the process. -- James Lileks

Apparently this doesn't warrant it's own thread. I guess either because no one's died (yet) or because the FBI doesn't think it was an act of terrorism.

And yet ... even under the proposed gun control laws they would probably be able to obtain them.

Which came first, apathy or ignorance when it comes to politics? Are so many people apathetic when it comes to politics because of their ignorance or are they ignorant because of their apathy?.

The perp and most of the victims are black. It's not exciting enough yet. Getting that kind of consideration requires a self indulgent white suburbanite teen to go bonkers with an AR15 to matter.

I'm with you... The nra argument that heavily armed civilians are the best way to stop a random shooter in a crowd of innocents is perfectly ridiculous. Clearly, there would be more victims shot by these "good guys with guns" firing wildly into the crowd. So the best way out is to invent some kind of deflector... And what better than race?

Give that man a big fat Cubana nra cigar!

Maybe because it happened in New Orleans which like Chicago amd DC is a bastion of both gun control and gun violence in the US. As with most stories, if it doesn't fit the narrative of the left it doesn't get covered.

Aside from the police, when was the last incident in which a good guy with a gun "fir[ed] wildly into a crowd" and caused more victims?

"The biggest problems that we're facing right now have to do with George Bush trying to bring more and more power into the executive branch and not go through Congress at all. And that's what I intend to reverse when I'm president of the United States." -- Sen. Barack Obama, March 31, 2008
