Symantec Rebates - "Your rebate request did not pass our audit process"

ryanm2890 30 January 24, 2013 at 03:46 AM
Hello all,

I recently received invalid notifications on 3 Symantec rebates (more should be coming) all giving the reason "Your rebate request did not pass our audit process". I'm assuming this is 1 product per year thing that McAfee does (or did?) but it says this nowhere in any of the fine print on any of these Symantec rebates. I've contacted parago about this and I waiting for a response but I thought I would start this thread cause I'm sure other people will be in this same boat. If anyone else has any experience with this "invalid reason" or is in this same boat with Symantec, post you experience.

The offers I'm officially having this problem with are:
13-43642
12-41409
13-43641

P.S. first post so go easy on me

Subject: Your Symantec rebates denials‏
From: Global Brand Protection (GlobalBrandProtection@symantec.com)
Sent: Mon 3/25/13

Thank you for reaching out to Symantec about the denial of your recent rebate requests # 561xxxxxx, 560xxxxxx, 562xxxxxx, 561xxxxxx. Symantec has recently discovered abuse of its rebate. For example, rebates for our Norton consumer products are available to customers and, as stated in the terms and conditions for our rebate promotions, are not available to OEM manufacturers, resellers or on any products to be auctioned or resold. Nonetheless, Symantec has discovered that certain individuals have been submitting an excessive amount of rebates for Norton products, often times for the identical product, and that often these products are being resold in secondary markets, such as eBay and Amazon. Symantec is in the process of reviewing our control processes to help prevent this type of abuse and we have now implemented limits on the annual quantity and value of rebates any person or household may redeem.

We see that you have submitted approximately XXX rebates since January 2012 and our system has flagged your recent submissions.

As courtesy we are fulfilling the rejected rebates; however, please explain the reason why you have purchased a high volume of Norton products and submitted this many requests for rebates.

Kind Regards,

Symantec Global Brand Protection

Like most ppl here, I never contacted Symantec directly. It was Frys, BBB, and CA Attorney General

As long as you still have it you should not fear saying it is for personal use. I always like to make sure I have the latest burns for emergency virus removal purposes.

Trend Micro, AVG, Kaspersky, would often allow 10 rebates per HH on Staples, yet Symantec has got their panties in a bunch if individuals buy more than one copy of their products.

Just curious, any guess on how many you must have bought to trigger this? Do they go by software title or just total number?

Lucky me, I only did 2-3 this year with different titles. This is really bad news because their rebate processing is very fast.

Other posters in this thread have reported that Symantec have replied to their BBB/CA attorney complaints, stating that the new limit is 20 rebates per year. Others have also reported that there is also a max rebate value of $1000 (whichever comes first).

Just received a tons of email validating all my denied rebates since January this year, I am wondering is that real or a glitch in their rebate software system?
