The buttons are all labeled to work with Gamex
If you need 42 buttons for your frontend, you need a new frontend, my man.

Not that I'm one to talk. I still can't get MaLa to work properly. Weekend project time! Whee

Really nice to see old retro Arcade joysticks like this are still in and creating excitement amongst the fans. I keep thinking MAME is dead or everyone would rather be playing on their smartphones, ipod touchs, tablets, PCs, consoles, or handhelds.
While I was building my cab, I realized my future kids and their friends will have no idea WTF it is and why you'd play games on it rather than a giant HDTV.

The extra buttons are for navigating the mame menus, back, pause, exit, 3 mouse click buttons and the trackball as the mouse, it make it much easier, in actuality there are only about 8 extra buttons.

I mean, I can tell stories and stuff. But without any arcades around, it just sounds ridiculous.

"Son, when I was your age and wanted to play videogames, I would go to a place with a bunch of other kids and a few creepy adults and a bunch of machines just like this one. Each one was the size of a truck and could only play one game."
"Were the games good?"
"The best. In one, you ran around eating dots. In another, you tried not to get run over crossing a street. In 5000 others, you moved up and shot things that moved down. In 10000 more, you moved right and punched things. But the best were the ones where you and somebody else would stand in each other's personal space and smash your fingers until they hurt in order to beat them up in the game."
"Couldn't you just stay home and play online?"
"There was no online. You just got to stand in line to be the next person to try to beat the weirdo who apparently had mailbox there."
"Why didn't you sit on the couch?"
"Because there were no seats."
"How did you pause the game to get drinks or go to the bathroom."
"Those things are for the weak. Just like seats. Now let me tell you about the phones that were magically on the walls of buildings..."

EDIT: Goddamn, it's a good thing I'm not a stand up comic.

If you want an upgrade on the buttons and joysticks, then here's a kit. They aren't as good as the IL Eurosticks, but still very good.

http://www.ebay.com/itm/HAPP-14-B...58856d158b

IL sticks are available on Paradise Arcade for $10 each plus shipping:

Convex buttons:

Secret I know it's too late now, but you do realize you can either set MAME up to use combo/shift buttons, context sensitive buttons, or use autohotkeys, right?

I have 5 arcade cabinets, it's not a full arcade, but it lets them know about the origin of gaming. My cabs are ugly right now, all except the Big Blue and Lethal Enforcers 2 cabinets I have, they were near pristine when I bought them. Once I make them pretty again, then I will start having arcade parties, so they can invite friends over to teach them the OG ways of gaming...lol.

Where? I haven't had that problem....
The part where the the plastic handle connects to the metal stem. It's not rounded off. So the plastic end usually makes a hard indent into my skin. Especially if you're trying to throw special moves on SF.
But then again it also depends on the angle/height you're holding the stick from.

that's awesome. I know I'm not going to be able to have that in my house. I'm happy enough my wife let me build this cab. I'm hoping to add one more stand-up cab in the future, as well as a dome hockey table. And if my dreams come true, a Phantom Menace pinball machine. I've already got foosball and table tennis, so I'm quite content.

Big Blue = sweetness. Is it original or converted to something else?

Interesting. Either mine must be tapered down a bit or I must hold the stick differently than you.

Have you tried getting new tops? I'm pretty sure you can switch them out without too much trouble. If not, you could replace the whole stick.

It was converted to a Tekken 3, but I am converting it back to a Street Fighter Champion Edition. I am going to put a Super Street Fighter Turbo PCB in it though. I just like the look of the Champion Edition artwork the best. My Z-back is going to have a switcher with World Warrior, Hyper Fighting and Champion Edition. It will have the Champion Edition artwork as well.

I have a 1315 in 1 board which I am putting into a Pit Fighter cabinet, it is basically a PC running MAME, not sure if you've checked them out before. It runs off a Jamma PCB, but has a motherboard, memory and hard drive attached to it. It's plug and play with a Jamma cabinet, so it saves a lot of hassle.

My fifth cabinet is an old Konami Contra cabinet I have converted to a 60 in 1, so I can play most of the classic 80's games. I play console, but mainly PC games. I play all the recent stuff like Borderlands 2, Black Ops 2, etc., but enjoy playing on my cabinets the most.

yes I do but I am so frazzled that I forget what is what, having them separate just makes it easier for me and whomever uses the unit

Those other cabs are sharp too, but can't you get a bigger monitor for that last one? The bezel is bigger than the screen laugh out loud
2001 man. I was like 16, I could probably only afford a 15" monitor back then!
