No. No laptop with 1366x768 will allow you to comfortably open two anything side by side.

ALL x230 tablets have IPS screens. I used a Dell Latitude XT3 which didn't have an IPS screen and it was absolutely horrible to use in tablet mode. If you're off-center it looks like crap, and even the small difference in position between your two eyes cause it to have an annoying effect (one eye sees the screen noticeably brighter than the other eye)

Ill put this out there:

X230T (Tablet), comes with IPS and wacom pen/digitizer. You cannot change this, you can only buy an X230T with IPS and wacom pen/digitizer. You can change the screen to include multitouch (capacitive, 5 finger input), but it still has the wacom pen/digitizer and it still has IPS.

X230T is both thicker and heavier than the X230. and except for the keyboard and most of the industry standard components, they share nothing else in common.

X230 comes in both IPS and non IPS screen, but its not the same as the X230T since that screen has the wacom stuff built into it.

Is the pen input worth it? Up to you. I use my tablet in laptop mode like 99.9% of the time nowadays. Back when I used to have classes, it was more like 70% tablet mode and the rest in traditional tablet.
Quote from Matthew08 View Post :
According to the specs for that model it has none of those. The display is multitouch and pen, but my research shows it isn't IPS because this is an i3 CPU model.

My ship date was yesterday and I'm still waiting on the confirmation, but others on this thread have said it sends the emails at night.

Anyone able to attest to the difference in quality for the screen options for the x230t series?

I know they're both IPS panels, but is there really a sacrifice involved if you want to have multitouch capabilities? How much better is the "outdoor" panel in practical use on a sunny day? Is there a difference in battery life?
Quote from hmmwv View Post :
That's incorrect, all X230T are IPS, but not the regular X230. The regular X230 can be configured with either the "12.5" HD 200NIT Panel" (TN) or the "12.5” HD Premium 300 NIT Wide-Viewing (IPS) Panel."

Besides X230Ts all the X230 with IPS panel will have the word Premium IPS in its display description.

Just asked Lenovo and they said it is an IPS screen.

It is 12.5" (317.5mm) HD (1366x768) TFT color, anti-glare, LED backlight, 300 nits, 16:9 aspect ratio, 500:1 contrast ratio, IPS, MultiTouch screen supports pen & five-finger gesture

Not an expert on knowing what that means but I see IPS in there
just spoke with lenovo and the woman said this computer does not have IPS display. she said IPS is synonymous with Premium HD whereas these are just HD. i know the website makes it look like all x230t's have IPS, and one person said lenovo told him it was, but do you guys actually know what you're talking about because it seems iffy at this point.

She was talking about the x230, not the x230t. For x230 you can choose HD and Premium HD (IPS), for x230t you can choose between Multitouch and Outdoor, both are IPS. In many cases people here have more accurate information than Lenovo sales reps.

Pretty sure I know what I'm talking about. The easiest way to tell that they're IPS is because they don't have shit viewing angles. Nearly all tablet PCs come standard with IPS or equivalent screens, other than the Dell XT3. Man that thing is horrible to use in portrait mode, you get a different brightness in each eye.

i thought so too but the last guy said he did some research and it wasn't, and I asked the lenovo woman if she said she was sure and she said yes (explained to her x230 vs. x230t too). i had a feeling she might be wrong but thought maybe only the newer cpu's had ips displays. However, that is highly unlikely so thanks guys.

"In Production" since Friday, I'm starting to get concerned that I won't be getting my computer now. It's been a full week since placing the order.

EDIT: Update, shipped! I'll have the tracking number soon... I'll be updating this thread after getting the computer and we'll find out if Acrobat and IPS are things included.

Tracking number is here, and also the serial number, here is the warranty status from Lenovo:

Base Warranty
Start Date:
2013-02-01 End Date:
2016-02-10 Warranty:
3EZ Active
Description:
This product has a three year limited warranty and is entitled to IBM EZ Serv service. Customers may call their local service center for more inf ormation. Dealers may provide carry-in repair for this product. Batterie s have a one year warranty.

Upgrade
Start Date:
2012-08-24 End Date:
2015-08-23 Warranty:
TPC Active
Description:
This product has a three year limited warranty which includes a ThinkPlu s warranty upgrade. This product is entitled to parts and labor and is e ntitled to EZServ. This machine is also entitled to the Thinkpad Protect ion Service. Customers may call the PC HelpCenter for more information.

Here is the parts lookup for the machine, using the FRUs we can determine if the display is IPS or not:

0A66702 04W3919 FRU for LGD 12.5"HD IPS LCD panel for Da
0C10098 04W3990 Comet-2 FRU LCD ASM 12.5 MultiTouch HD

BTW, it is indeed a 3 cell battery

I ordered both the $484 and $615 deals (the $615 is going straight back). Both boxes have the "AdbDlgSciCol" in the configuration list.

The $484 box that I opened came with CDs for Photoshop Elements 10, Premiere Elements 10 (2 discs), and Acrobat X Pro. Here's a photo of what I received: http://i.imgur.com/1CQyaoQ.jpg

I've never had an IPS screen before, but I'm pretty sure this one is IPS based on the viewing angles.

My machine also has multitouch.

Happy to answer any other questions.

They'll update the warranty about a 3-5 days after you receive it, they did that with mine.

Very nice, but what was the $615 deal? And what was the $484?

Mine was the $484 deal, but with i5 and Outdoor screen.

I didn't realize there were different models at $484. I'm referring to the configuration from the OP in this thread (i3, 4gb, 320gb, matte screen, etc). My understanding is that there were a few of these available

The $615 deal is from the OP in this thread.

My system is the $615 deal one, except it comes with the Outdoor screen instead of multitouch which people have complained about in that thread and I got it at the lower $484 price before tax.

Which battery did everyone get? The description from the OP says "ThinkPad Battery 67+ (3 cell)" however the 67+ battery is a 6 cell...

Did you buy the i3 one for $484?

Same here, my desc says that. I guess if I don't like the laptop, I can always point that discrepancy out.

All X230 TABLET PCs have an IPS display. I bought one when it first came out so I've been using it for awhile.

The regular X230 has two displays ( one IPS and the standard one is a TN panel).
