I received a letter from Dish Network stating that they are increasing the DVR price for $5 which is effective next month. I am in a two year contract and basically I am fine with the price I agreed on before but this seems unfair. They said that they are going to lock in my price for the first year but on the second year I have to pay the addition $5-$6. They said it is stated in the contract that they can change the pricing at any time. Is this even legal? I do not remember the representative stating this to me. Thanks

I find it ironic how people hate the commitment involved with satellite (often something touted in cable ads), but at the same time would never consider getting rid of pay TV altogether. My point being that with cable, there's no contract, but IMHO it's more expensive with crappy equipment and poor service. With satellite you do have to sign a (usually 2 yr) contract, but if you were skiddish on the contract, and went with cable, you'd probably be with them for the 2 years anyway. Bottom line - if you want pay TV (whatever it is), having a contract shouldn't be a consideration in your vendor decision.
At any rate, I've been with Dish for almost 10 years (after several years with Comcast where they couldn't get out of their own way to fix minor issues) - I want to say there's some sort of offset for the DVR fee - e.g. if you buy their protection plan or subscribe to a certain level of programming, it's waived.
