I have been looking for the best deal on a Windows tablet and came across these guys on Viewsonic's factory store:

Viewsonic Viewpad 10pi Windows 7 Tablet - $299
http://www.viewsonic.com/us/table...-10pi.html

Viewsonic Viewpad 10pi Windows 7 Ready Tablet - $149
http://www.viewsonic.com/us/table...no-os.html

Viewsonic must be blowing these out, because the cheapest price I could find for the $299 version with Windows 7 pre-installed is $499.99 on Amazon:

http://www.amazon.com/Viewsonic-V...ewpad+10pi

I was able to buy that $39.99 Windows 8 upgrade special from Microsoft before it expired yesterday and was thinking about using that to do a clean install on the $149 version of this Viewsonic 10pi. That would give me a Windows 8 tablet for under $200.

What do you think? Does anyone know of a better deal out there on a Windows tablet?

I think Viewsonic realized that it can't work well with any upgrades - Android 4 or Win 8, then just blow them out and turn to a new page.

Be ready for no tech supports after buying this. good luck!

Buyer for this A) requires a windows tablet for some reason, B) only has $150, C) has a windows 7 license, D) isn't going to do much in the way of graphics or video since the current gma600 driver has little hardware acceleration and the atom can't do it, and E) they like doing all the work to make the tablet operate correctly unless you buy the $300 model. At which point you could own any of a half dozen quad core android tabs or an ipad 2.
To be fair to the tablet, this is an X86 core, which is a lot faster than an ARM cores. The Atom should be just as fast as a dual core ARM if not faster.

Assuming the win 8 upgrade can be achieved, the video acceleration capabilities of the GMA 600 have me concerned:

Hmm, from my experience anything working on 7 works naively on 8. If the driver is available then it shouldn't be an issue. I'll install 8 as soon as I get it. This might be a good time for me to get into the ROM building scene to get a custom Android Rom on this.

If Windows 8 and JellyBean worked on this, it would be the slickest deal since the HP touchpad!
that is definitely not true.
i have a ESC board and driver came with it would crash win 8.

Big time pass on this. Can't believe people are buying these. You can't upgrade past Android 2.3, and you don't have the processing power to run W7 or W8. The benchmark is just too poor to be of any use in a windows environment.

Why not remove the partition and Grub entry so you can recover some space?

..or you can replace original 64GB SSD w/128, 256, or480GB msata Smilie
Seriously, I wouldn't be surprised if there is unused second msata port on the motherboard, so second SSD can be added.

When 480GB msata will fall from the sky in terms of price, it will go to my Youga, replacing 128GB msata chip, which will go into this thing.
That's the plan!

To be fair, that isn't a correct assertion. The current crop of decent dual core ARM soc's are as much as 50-60% faster than the best available atom out right now. The graphics on the arm series can be as much as 10x what you might see in an atom.

The arm cores also don't have to drag windows around with them.

Some newer atom designs and the down cutting of the i5 into an soc will change that sometime later this year.

But lets be real about this...its exactly like the people hawking the e-series and low end apu netbooks. They're slow, but acceptable to people with low expectations. But the problem that comes about is people making claims that its great, then people buy them and get buyers remorse.

So I like to tell the truth. This will be slower running windows than most current $100-150 tablets running dual core soc's and jelly bean. In most instances, a lot slower. Without a hardware accelerated driver for the gpu, its darn near worthless.

Yeah, for me really slow tablet is OK. This product perfectly fits my need for it, that's all.
And for the money, someone else could get something that'll fit far more than your needs, and actually still be useful in a year. All of my atom devices have been sitting in a box for a year or more.

The point isnt 'is this good enough for someone with low expectations', its 'is this the best I can get in the $150-300 range?' and the answer to that is a resounding NO. Its not a good product and its not a good price.

Special thanks to your post, LOL.
If you don't like it, why don't you move along and concentrate on the threads you have interest?
Haters will hate, I know.
I own 4 Android tablets and one Windows 8 laptop/tablet combo, Yoga, top of the line.
I also own several netbooks w/Atom.
They serve my purposes, one works as dedicated NAS server machine etc etc.

I wanna versatile device w/Windows - Android dual boot for my car.
This device fits perfectly into my reqs.

I am sure I can tweak it to perfection.

You don't like it, good for you. It is my money I am spending, remember?
