I have been looking for the best deal on a Windows tablet and came across these guys on Viewsonic's factory store:

Viewsonic Viewpad 10pi Windows 7 Tablet - $299
http://www.viewsonic.com/us/table...-10pi.html

Viewsonic Viewpad 10pi Windows 7 Ready Tablet - $149
http://www.viewsonic.com/us/table...no-os.html

Viewsonic must be blowing these out, because the cheapest price I could find for the $299 version with Windows 7 pre-installed is $499.99 on Amazon:

http://www.amazon.com/Viewsonic-V...ewpad+10pi

I was able to buy that $39.99 Windows 8 upgrade special from Microsoft before it expired yesterday and was thinking about using that to do a clean install on the $149 version of this Viewsonic 10pi. That would give me a Windows 8 tablet for under $200.

What do you think? Does anyone know of a better deal out there on a Windows tablet?

Can this be used for remote access? I need to access my HTPC from time to time, and this would be a great way to use this tablet if remote access is accessible on this.
If you're referring to remote desktop yes, it will work.

One of the amazon reviews says not upgradeable to win8. Is this still accurate?

"I bought this in anticipation of Windows 8 because along with the product Amazon included the deal for the special price for Windows 8. I wanted to get the device and upgrade it to Windows 8 when it was released about a month later. WRONG!!! As of this date this device IS NOT UPGRADEABLE to Windows 8. The Marvell AVASTAR network controller device does not have a Windows 8 driver. I contacted Marvell and they have no immediate plans to upgrade the driver for Windows 8."
Windows 8 is just a prettied up version of Windows 7. You can use the Windows 7 driver for Windows 8. Are you familiar with force installing a driver?

For those that are asking, there does not appear to be free shipping, but a discount code 2012REG for 5% off which covers most of the shipping cost.

4 hours life on battery scares me. It's even worse than any chinese knockoff tablet. Wait, did they time it with wifi off, low dim display, and standby mode?? So, when you actually using the tablet, it may last up to 2 hours?
I also notice that NEITHER REVIEW ON VIEWSONIC WEBSITE ACTUALLY PLAY THE TABLET ITSELF. They just hold the tablet and play the power point slide off the screen. Watch the hands on review on engadget, i just wondered why they made such tablet.

I have a couple extra windows 7 licenses I could use for something like this...but based on the reviews, I am staying away from this nightmare!!!! (I would bite at about $90, though Smilie).

Hmmm.. Should I waste $170 for junk like this? It'll probably sit out of my room since i have ipad and nexus 7. Or should i save money to get surface tablet or win8 tablet??
I have a Nexus 7, Asus VivoTab RT TF600T, Yoga 11 and sold my iPad3. It's not perfect, but I am enjoying Windows RT. Microsoft got the interface navigational bits right, once you get used to them. I am really enjoying the Yoga 11, which is on sale at Amazon but still expensive. I would not keep the Yoga as my only "tablet" as its too big for pure tablet use. I use my Nexus 7 for that. I was able to get the VivoTab for $400 with the keyboard dock, but will likely not keep it.

I really don't see why are you guys complaining. For $149 you get a fanless system with 64GB SSD, 2GB Ram and 1280x800 IPS.

Read the reviews on tablets with the same specs but different brands - just about everybody can play AVI files with VLC as well as smooth flash videos. Yes, it might not be a $600 W8 tablet, but come on. Look at the Fujitsu STYLISTIC Q550 for example.

I am sure that if you tweak your W7 well enough, it will work pretty good.

To me, this is even better than the TouchPad firesale. I am tempted to get another one.

I was excited to see this roll across my twitter feed and was worries when I got to work that it would be sold out. After watching the engadget video, I can see why it isn't...that thing is SLLLOOOOOWWWW. I could have tolerated SOME lag because of the price but that is unforgivable...people, seriously. Unless this tablet is for a 2 year old to use as a frisbee in the pool...don't waste your money.

I think with atom and 2gb ram (non-upgradable?) win8 will be the only thing it is capable to run. I wonder when it will be fully supported by win8 (amazon review showed the network card wasn't supported by win8 - perhaps win7 driver will do?)

Take a look at the cpu passmark chart [cpubenchmark.net] and find where atom Z670 is located....even P-III and VIA C7 are both more powerful. Imagine using P-III or C7 to run today's web browsers....and this is slower than that.

There is still a hardware gap between x86/64 and ARM-based all-in-one chips. This is on sale for just that reason - it gives the user ability to run x86 software with unbearable slow speed unless you have lightweight linux on it - might as well get a used but more powerful netbook with win7 installed for less.
