Thread Details

Looking for a location to have our honeymoon in the southeast states such as Georgia, Florida, Tennessee, Etc.

We're looking to stay a week. Preferably in a cabin (or other isolated area) that is decent priced. We're trying to not pay over $1,000 for a week in the cabin.

Fiance is military and about to be deployed if that helps any (aka trying to find places that do military discounts).

I've been searching VRBO and other such sites. However, I need some good locations first and we're stumped on that part.

Looking for location, nearby attractions (aka stuff to fill the week with), and if known overall cost. Basically, your suggestions and experiences.

Thank you! worship

What time of the year are you planning to honeymoon? Quite a bit of the southeast can get extremely hot and humid over the summer. Are you planning on more of a mountain escape (Gatlinburg, TN is a great little town!) or is a beach trip to the gulf more to your liking?

Begin your marriage with a taste of Hollywood romance (Gone with the Wind-style) in Charleston. This South Carolina city pours on the Southern charm like gravy on biscuits. Cobblestone streets set the scene, while a horse-drawn carriage ride sets the mood.

What time of year? The weather can get very hot and humid in the spring/summer months in that part of the country.

One place were it's not as bad is Ashville, NC. Very pretty up in the mountains and there are lots of rentals there as well as fun stuff to do and see.

Just set the date of the wedding so the Honeymoon will be late July.

We enjoy cabins and forests so Mountains preferably over a beach but if someplace had both that would be wonderful.

Gatlinburg, TN was a consideration. Didn't think about Charleston or Ashville.

Known for its breathtaking sunsets, rich Greek food, and couples-specific accommodations, Santorini is almost tailor-made for those who've just said, "I do." Honeymooners can enjoy lounging on red-and-black sand beaches or visiting the island's wineries. If you and your boo truly want to get away from it all, head straight to the Maldives. Far from your new in-laws, this paradise has plenty of romantic nooks.

If you sign up for Living Social and Groupon deals in the area you're interested in honeymooning in, you'll get deals emailed to you on a regular basis that will include some pretty nice deals on cabins in the area you're interested in.

In addition to VRBO, check out Airbnb [airbnb.com].

There are great cabin rentals available around Helen, GA (a couple hours drive from ATL). There are tons of things to do around town, and if you get bored, the Tail of the Dragon, the Great Smokey Mountain Railway, the town of Toccoa, and many other places are quite close. My wife and I stayed here for our honeymoon back in 2011 and it was pretty affordable, we spent about $1500 for a week, all told.

http://www.blueridgecabinrentals.com/ is what I used to book ours, but there are plenty of others.

You might be able to find such a place in one of the Florida Keys, but not Key West. That place is too expensive for you.

Here's a LivingSocial deal that just came out. 7 nights in a cabin in the Great Smoky Mountains for $718 [groupon.com].

One of the more unusual things to do in the mountains of NC...

Pan for gold or gems. You pay a fee to get in or pay per bucket of soil and they provide the tools. It's kind of fun if you've never done it before. Last time I did this, someone found a 10 carat sapphire about six feet from where I was digging. Something that big is pretty rare though. I still have some of the gems, the biggest is a ruby that's about 2.5 carats. Only did it a couple of times as I didn't live in NC.

Thanks for the suggestion! I was looking for destinations for a couples trip in April!
