Inspired by this thread and specifically this post, I did some digging to look for the 50 GB offer from Box.com for Dell advantage customers.

It turns out that the link does NOT seem to be specific to a user, so ANYONE can use it. Besides, they seem to WANT to share with your co-workers and friends. Consider yourselves my friends hug

50 GB link [box.com]

Thread FAQ
Details
50 GB of web storage
250 MB file size limit
10 GB - monthly shared bandwidth limit (calendar) [box.com]
Simple sharing and collaboration
Mobile app access

- I already signed up on the 25GB promo, can I sign up again?
For those who signed up previously with a gmail account, you can use the multiple gmail aliases trick [makeuseof.com], to sign up again for the 50 GB.

So instead of signing up for youremail@gmail.com, sign up with youremail+anystuffyouwant@gmail.com, and it should sign you up to a new account. Posters have reported this works and some use youremail+box@gmail.com for ease of remembering.

- It seems to require a phone number. Do I have to give my real phone number?
Yes, a phone number is required, and no, it does not have to be a real one.

- Can I merge multiple accounts together?
No, this is not possible. From Box.com's FAQ [box.com]:

Quote :
We currently do not provide account merge functionality, and email address cannot be associated with more than one Box account
Posters HAVE reported being able to share folders from one account to the other, though. This might run into sharing bandwidth issue, though.
If you purchase something through a post on our site, Slickdeals may get a small share of the sale.

Ladies and Gentleman who are complaining about the upload size, bandwidth limits etc, you might want to remember this is FREE and it's 50GB of cloud storage that you didn't have before.

Furthermore, you can use a program like Winrar or 7zip to manage larger file sizes.

Forget the gmail trick. You'll STILL be logging in with an email other than your own regular log-in. Do the account hop. Or, in this case, the box hop! Heres what I did.

1. I added a disposable email address to my old (25) account.
(click gear icon > account settings > then scroll down to add emails)
2. I made that NEW (disposable) email address the primary account email.
3. I deleted my original (good) email from the account.

4. I made a NEW (50) account using a 3rd email (disposable)
5. I added my original (good) email to the new account.
6. I made the original (good) email the primary.
7. I deleted the 3rd (disposable) email.

You can now log in with your original email. No having to remember +(something)@gmail.com

Edit. I revised this to show EXACTLY what I did. I didn't actually cancel my old account and make a new one as I mentioned before. I assumed that would work the same. Maybe (and perhaps probably) not.

For the above, You can still use the gmail trick to swap primary accounts, so you won't have to keep signing up for new email. Basically you need your primary email, then 2 gmail trick emails ex. Y.ouremail@gmail.com & Yo.uremail@gmail.com

Not sure how to interpret this: Why would they need to use to sync?? Confused(b) License to Box. Customer grants to Box and its contractors an irrevocable, royalty-free, worldwide license to access, use, modify, and delete any information, materials, data, files, programs, ideas and opinions provided or made available by Customer ("Customer Content") through the use of Software for the sole purpose of synchronizing the services made available through the Software with the services made available through the Website.

Can you please tell how exactly you added this disposable email address to your account? I went to Gear->Settings->Accounts and Import->Add another email address you own, I made this new disposable account as DEFAULT, but could not remove the primary one.

Can you please point exact steps.

I just did this and it worked fine

If you created an account under an email address your would rather not use - add the correct email address, make sure you verify through the email you receive and then go back and change the new address to the primary - hover your mouse over the email address and the "make primary" link will be visible

Are you sure? My biggest fear was losing the original account permanently. I actually did this a little differently than I mentioned. I didn't exactly cancel my old account first. What I did was...

I added a disposable email address to my old (25) account.
I made that NEW (disposable) email address the primary account.
I deleted my original (good) email from the account.

I made a NEW (50) account using a 3rd email (disposable)
I added my original (good) email to the new account.
I made the original (good) email the primary.
I deleted the 3rd (disposable) email.

The 50gb is now my new account that I am able to log-in to using my original email.
I canceled my old 25gb account which is now linked to some garbage email.

Thats the way I did it. I ASSUMED just canceling the old account and starting over would do the same thing. If my instructions caused you to lose your old account permanently, I am very sorry. I recommend emailing and/or calling box.com and telling them you accidentaly canceled your account because you were unfamiliar with the interface and are now upset and are turned off from box.com unless you can get it restored.

In the meantime, go and reserve a new 50gb account with ANY email so you can try this again later!

hi,

how did you created disposable emails? I guess, additional emails in the box do require confirmation of activation.

By 10gb/ month traffic they mean non-personal access, right?
It's not like once you've filled the 50gb it'll take you 5 months to download it back Wink

I used 10minutemail.com

It gives you an address that will expire in 10 minutes. You can check and confirm emails right from that website until your temp email expires. There is an option to keep giving yourself 10 more minutes, but you have to keep clicking it (as many times as you want) before time runs out.

EDIT: I was able to perform the steps on my box.com account (not gmail account) and it worked just fine.

I tried this out but unfortunately the file size limit wont work for me.

can any one suggest another free service that has a larger file size limit WITH an iOS app?

I was hoping to use this to get access to video files on the ol' pc.

Ok, Sir, for the same price any of these cloud storage places charge I get UNLIMITED direct link space and can sync any which way I want with FTP, SSH or whatever other method a SERIOUS IT EDUCATED person knows how to do these things. I don't need the tools/sync app that Dropbox or Box provides to hold my hand. Not only do I get all that I get a plethora of other web services included in the same(less) monthly fee that the cloud storage places charge. Hey you are entitled to your opinion as I am mine.
most web hosts actually prohibit you using it as a backup service in there terms of use, so if they catch you doing that they can shut you down.

It looks like this is dead. When i try the link i get:

"Sorry, we were unable to validate your offer. For the latest info on special deals and promotions you may qualify for, be sure to add Box on Facebook, check out The Box Blog or follow us on Twitter. "

What gets me is if i sign into one of my 50gig accounts theres a link to give a 50gig account to a friend. When i put in an email address it sends them an email for a link to click on, but they get the same error. Seems false advertising to me.
