Hello everyone,

Recently, some people over at Howardforums on grandfathered/classic plans have discovered that their $20/month 5GB Preferred Android Web data plan was replaced with a $5/month 5GB "Pref Android Web Reduced" data plan. Details are as follows:

-$5/month for 5GB. Throttles after 5GB although some users have reported no throttling at all.

-Only works for Grandfathered and Classic plans, NOT Value plans.

-Get by calling 611 on your T-mobile phone and saying "cancel" at the prompt to reach the retentions/loyalty department.

-Loyalty CSR called it "Bridge to Value Preferred Web" and described it as a way of giving classic plan members a sample of Value cost savings.

-Despite the name, it does not require you to switch to Value at anytime, nor was I forced to extend my contract.

-This reduced data plan is not eligible as a choice for getting an upgraded smartphones. Upgrading a line with the $5 plan will change the line back to the $20 plan. It's not clear whether you add the $5 data plan on a line that has upgraded recently.

-This is not like T-zones/Web2Go in that it WILL work with any Android phone. I don't know about other types of phones.

This isn't for any prepaid plans. It's only for classic plan post-paid customers who got a subsidized price on a phone, but are now out of contract or nearing the end of their contract.

I also tried to add the free wificalling to my lines which she said may be used against my minutes though. I thought they were supposed to be free otherwise what's the point of asking for it if it's already available on some phones?Confused
The feature is free to add, but depending on your plan, minutes may or may not be deducted. See this old thread.

For a good number of people like myself, the point of WiFi calling is not to save minutes per se, but maintain coverage when T-Mobile's network sucks, or when I'm overseas.

When I upgraded online, I had to pay $150 for ETF by the way.

Classic 1000 Minute—Talk - Reduced Price $59.98 per month
NOTE: You are currently receiving a price reduction on your monthly service cost.
By changing your current plan, you may lose your current price reduction.

Data Preferred Androind Unlimited Web Only - Reduced Price $5.00 per month
You currently receive a price reduction on your monthly service cost for this data service.

AAL Fee $5.00 per month

Voice Premium Handset Protection Insurance for Premier Devices $7.79 per month

Voice Unlimited Domestic Messages $10.00 per month

My plan went down $20 before $20 Equipment Installment. I also get corporate discount so pretty much my 3 lines bill is under $100.
We seem to have very similar plans... The $5 AAL is till Jan 2014... Hopefully they will extended or make it permanent for us then... But was wondering about u'r Voice Unlimited Domestic Messages.. Is the $10 just for one line or for all lines in u'r plan... I am paying $20 for Unlimited Text for all 3 lines on my plan... Trying to see if I should request a different txt deal I might of missed...

How do you know that the $5 AAL is only until 2014? $10 is unlimited texting for all lines on the family plan. I have that one.

In Feb/Mar 2011 they had a promotion where AAL was $5 until 01/2014.

If you're AAL is $5 due to BTV, I would imagine that it should be permanently $5.

Plan to double check with loyalty if $5 AAL is until JAN 2014 or continuous... I remember them mentioning 2014 but I hope it's continuous...

My Family TXT has always been $20... How long had u had the $10 plan.. Before BTV or after... Hopefully I can get u'r rate on TXT too...

Well, just got off the phone... Never talk to a non-Loyalty rep about u'r BTV plans... They don't really help much... And they just try to sell u on the 500mb plans they have now... Which are not bad for new customers but not for us with BTV access... The first rep did not want to transfer me to Loyalty since I was not complaining or saying I wanted to cancel anything... Regular CSR said that she could NOT find any expiration date for the $5 AAL....

Called a second time and asked for Loyalty... This time I mention Loyalty had asked me to call about the BTV if I had any ?'s.. Got put right thru to Loyalty...

I first confirm with Loyalty that there was NO expiration date for the $5 AAL... So that is great.. BTV customers do not have to worry about any 2014 expiration date since our discount is based on BTV only... Then I asked about me & a "friend" comparing BTV deals & having the same rates except for the TXT plans.... She tried to find the $10 TXT plan but was not available in her system... So she matched it another way... She found a $15 Family TXT plan & added a 2-Year $5 discount to it... Making it $10 for 2 years... So thanks a lot tengtengvn for the heads up....

My Plan is now looking even better:
$60 (2 lines) + $5 (3rd line)= $65
3 lines sharing 1000 shared minutes
w/ Unlimited Nights/Weekends
w/ Unlimited T-Mobile to TMobile

$5
5GB (no tether) Unlimited Data

$5
5GB (no tether) Unlimited Data

$5
5GB (no tether) Unlimited Data (Decided to add Data to the 3rd line at this price just in case since this price won't be available in the future past BTV)

$15 - $5 2-Year discount= $10
Unlimited Text Messages

-$10 Loyalty Discount for 6 Months starting on my current billing cycle

GRAND TOTAL (before fees & taxes): $80

+ a 15% Corporate Discount that should take care of the Taxes & Fees

We also have 2x Voice Premium Handset Protection Insurance for Premier Devices $7.79 per month(Adding 15.58 to the bill)... Plan to eliminate one of them as soon as I find out if they are willing to exchange my HD2 or not...
I don't think this amount of data & minutes can be beat by any other offers pre-paid or post-paid out there... I just hope I can keep the extra $10 loyalty discount past the 6 months... I am thinking of adding a 4th line for $5 before the BTV offer vanishes... To bad they won't let u downgrade minutes to 700 or 400 on the BTV... But still a great awesome deal...

Thanks to everybody that shared their rates & plans info... I was able to figure out what to ask for & thanks T-Mobile for the BTV plan... bounce

I just called loyalty (basically say discontinue service on the menu option) and they gave me BTV $5 data plans as well as $5 AAL without any problems. No contract, no end date. And I still keep my old grandfathered plan $49.99 600 min plan (they actually threw in data for free for my second line) with nights/weekends/m2m/myFaves. So I saved $10/month and got free data onto one line. My line's still on the $20 android web plan so once that expires, I'll move that to the $5 plan to save an extra $15/month.

Yeah!!

And I did get a warning from the rep who said that this discount will remain intact as long as I don't add a new phone that I get from the online store (the same problem from earlier reports). Seeing that I'm buying unlocked phones at full prices anyway, this shouldn't be an issue for me.

Humn.... Wonder why a TMobile online store purchased phones would causes this problem... Guess we can try calling Loyalty to try to get the same price or better on a phone for Upgrade... I was told under BTV we would still be able to use their phone payement plans without affecting the plans current price & I am guessing we can buy or create a payment plan in-store... It might be that when u order a phone online within an account u have to choose a Data plan that would mess up u'r BTV deal... Might call to clarify what is the problem with using phones purchase from their Online Store.....

I called once today, but made the mistake (I think) of requesting a call-back. I have a feeling that the rep who called back was not Loyalty. Loyalty reps, in the past, have been American sounding, whereas this was an outsourced rep, which, in my experience, is generally frontline.

I was offered 2GB for $5, plus an up-sell on Simple Choice. I refused both. The rep repeatedly said there was no 5GB for $5 option, nor anything such as BTV preferred web.

I will try again.

Got it today! woot 5GB for $5, no hotspot. I was told something about the $5 AAL being applicable to phone purchases only (new AALs only?); didn't really understand it, didn't really care. 5GB was $5 was really what I was after.

TU OP, and repped.

Edit: just noticed, I did get a $5 AAL discount too! woot woot

Just so people are aware -- if your plan does not have hotspot access (as is the case with BTV) you may still be able to use it. If you have something like a Galaxy Nexus, Nexus 4 or Google Play Edition Galaxy S4, you can use it, or if you have a T-Mobile phone with a custom ROM like cyanogenmod or AOKP. T-Mobile phones with stock ROMs before Android 4.1 could use it either with the default hotspot app or using FoxFi. In all cases, you might see the T-Mobile hotspot upsell message in desktop browsers, but there are ways around that with useragent changing plugins for Firefox and possibly Chrome. If you're trying to connect with an Android or iOS tablet won't see the upsell message.
