Formula One 2013 *possible spoilers in thread*

Things are off to a rocky start in testing. Ferrari's car caught fire and there are some gear box issues, while Hamilton's car had brake failure, causing a minor crash into the barrier, he wasn't hurt though.

And some really sad news today, David Coulthard's 35 year old sister has died at home of what appears to be a heart attack.

Yeah well the fuel rule screwed them, if they had raced those last few laps, they wouldn't have had the minimum fuel required at the finish. It's their teams fault for not giving them enough fuel to do proper racing but it's also the governing boards decision to put all these arbitrary rules and regulations in place that stifle true racing.

I don't have any problems with the no re-fueling during the race as it's become dangerous. However, it's totally the teams fault for not fueling the cars enough to race to the end without dialing it back. The team took a risk that there would be a safety car which would have allowed them a few laps under minimum throttle and thus allowed to save weight. Also, it looks as if rosberg drove more efficiently than lewis or lewis used up more fuel during his push to the front while rosberg was able to conserve fuel til the end. I think rosberg should have been allowed to pass.

As for racing comment about mark and seb, it's not racing when the team tells both drivers to slow down and bring it home safely but only one driver listens and turns it down while the other skips pasts you. I think Mark should have blocked seb and drove him off the line when he had the chance. Even the team said seb was being "silly".

how is it that other racing series can refuel cars without anything starting on fire, but F1, the most advanced series in the world, can't?

Even if there weren't team orders... there'd still be team orders nod that's the nature of a championship that pays out $$ on manufacturer standings.

So you think Rosberg should have passed Lewis, but you also think Seb shouldn't have passed Mark? Scratchhead

Exactly! Somehow during the race. Nico drove well and got to a position of having enough fuel left and having good tires and able to run towards the 2 red bulls. Lewis drove hard during the middle stints and didn't gain that much ground and ran low on fuel. As Nico was in better position, he should have been let free to run as fast and he can towards the 2 red bulls. He was punished for having been in a much better position than lewis but was told not to pass. He obeyed team orders since team boss said so.

Now as for the red bulls, they both were told to race each other until they got to the last stop at which point if the both of them were ahead of everyone then they would hold position and bring the cars home safely to avoid repeat of Turkey 2010 and to save the life of the engines. So with that in mind, Mark and Seb were both told to turn their engine mapping down to Monty 21. Mark turned it down but Seb decided that he didn't want to turn it down and obey the agreement that they made. Is Seb a faster driver? Yes most of the time, should he get punished by the team? I don't give a rats ass. Should he have run better stints early in the race to pass Mark yes, should he have passed mark instead of complaining about his "slowness"? Yes.
I say this with full knowledge that Seb complained about Mark slowing him down earlier in the race and was told, it's a long race seb keep calm still a ways to go. So I can understand his gripe to a point.

just got done watching the Chinese GP. Great race, none of this fuel saving junk. Great action in the first 12 to 15 laps, great action with Vettel on the charge in the last 5 laps. If he had managed to get around 13 cleanly I bet he would have taken Hamilton in the DRS zone. Not sure if he messed up or if the tires were already going off.

Feel bad for Webber, and for Rosberg. I need to go catch up on the post race news now, other than already hearing about Webber's penalty for Bahrain.

Red Bull got a slap on the wrist (5,000 Euro fine) for unsafe release of Webber's car, over the wheel coming off.

Webber gets a 3 place penalty in Bahrain for his crash with Vergne.

Gutierrez gets a 5 place penalty in Bahrain for crashing into Sutil.

Facepalm

Sir Stirling Moss says he is "not surprised" there are no women drivers in Formula One [guardian.co.uk] as he believes they do not have the mental strength to compete.

The 83-year-old added that, while women have the physical strength, he does not think they have the mental ability to cope with wheel-to-wheel racing.

Facepalm is right. I hope somebody proves him wrong before he dies.

Formula One tyre suppliers Pirelli have decided against using their soft tyres at this weekend's Bahrain Grand Prix after concern about how quickly they wear out.

A spokeswoman said the decision was made after last month's Malaysian Grand Prix, where the track is similar in characteristics to Bahrain, to bring the hard and medium compounds rather than hard and soft.

I thought it was a good race too. The beginning was exciting and the end was as well but I feel like the alternate strategies just kinda spoil the middle of the race. Watching them run their own race and if you don't keep up with the times on scoring, it's boring.
Fernando ran a truely strong race and glad to see he's got a car to bring home the WDC, WCC this year. I'll be waiting to see Vettel's 2nd finger up in the air saying, "damn, damn damn" instead of his annoying yes yes yes. Kimi stepped into Lotus at the right time and he's driving really well. Damn Kimster should have never left F1 to begin with. Same goes for Kubica's extra credit attempt that got him hurt.
I haven't paid much attention to the back but is Vergn or Bianchi showing any signs of promise? I hear the bbc guy talking about Bianchi doing much better than his teammate or something.

Sir Moss's mother is turning over in her grave. She's had the mental capacity to deal with his ignaramous and that's much more difficult than wheel to wheel racing...almost.
what is up with old men who dont know to shut up or act accordingly? The exposure to english folks from F1 are killing the rep of the Brits.
Ron Dennis = yikes so many quotes to choose from
Max Mosley = double yikes ...

speaking of such things, Vettel gets up on the podium, does the interview, says it's great to have a woman on the steps taking the constructor trophy, and ends it by saying "she takes care of the boys" Facepalm then he doubles down and won't show the thing on his shoes because he's not a woman. Dontknow

at least the podium announcer reminded them not to swear LMAO Facepalm

Just went back and watched it, we usually skip the interviews.

It was worse than that, he said...

I'm not sure I can show those things, I don't lift my legs as high as a woman does.

aside from that, I thought it was a good race. Had lots of passing and good battles all the way to the end. I still don't understand how Nico wound up so low. It was good to see Lotus throw in a good result for both drivers. I'm all for teams upsetting the status quo, I don't mind watching McLaren struggle shake head I do wish Williams looked Stronger, and I'm surprised Sauber hasn't done more to keep pace with Force India.
