Neighbors from Hell...

4,292 360 May 3, 2013 at 10:45 PM
So I have a house across the street from me that is the eyesore of our neighborhood. Most of the homes in our neighborhood , are nice two bedroom homes built in the 70 and 80's, all well maintained. No kids around mostly one or two people to a house.Accept the house across the street from me. Its owned by A woman in her 50's and her x husband.Neither lives there. I think she has had 4 or 5 kids who range in age from 18- 27. The parents let the kids have the house to do whatever they like. I am sure it's party central. Neighbors are starting to take A hit on their property values. Cops are over there all the time.
The house always looked junky and trashy but was never an issue till they started getting noisy. There always seems to be A new group of bums there, I am assuming she rents rooms to these young people.I did try to talk to them and tell them older folks don't like the noise, but it only made it worse. I did notice the guy I talked to had some pretty rotten teeth, and was assuming the worst ...meth. I started to then realize what I was dealing with.
The house was about ready to be auctioned off for non payment of 5 years of property taxes but the day before the auction the tax deed was redeemed. Now it looks like they are not going anywhere. There is alot of traffic there too. There is no way when people leave there in the middle of the night they are not under the influence of something. I would not be surprised if drug dealing goes on there since there is so much traffic. If I had proof I am sure the police would want to know.
The police in this county deal with issues like this by pretty much harassing the bad element until they move somewhere else. This approach keeps property taxes low as we do not have to pay to incarcerate our scumbags. It works well for us. Any way the police and I are working together to deal with this issue. Just by luck also my girlfriend's brother is a local celebrity as he is A very popular County Commissioner. This in, helps me keep the sheriff's ear.
I would like to monitor this house's traffic by setting up a wifi camera overlooking my property, where just by chance the offending property would be in the background. I would know when people come and go, and if i have reason to i will notify the police. The house is about 70-80 feet away. There is A streetlight on their property so there is some light at night. I would like to just place the camera behind a front bedroom window, but it could be placed outside on my front porch if need be. I do not think i would want to hard wire if it was outside.
Any suggestions for A camera?
With any luck they will cross the line , get their house confiscated for dealing drugs there, and we get peaceful neighbors, who don't want to rob my house. The rest of the neighborhood is ready for them to go too.

Why do you have more of an issue with that house when usually it's the adjacent neighbors? They're the ones who should be more proactive.

I'm sure someone will jokingly suggest arson but that may just be temp fix if they return after the rebuild.

Have you tried talking to your priest/religious leader? It seems like it would be his jurisdiction.

Looks like you answered your own question.

Of course you probably meant "except", but your error changes the whole meaning. Are you sure the "house across the street" isn't really your own house?

I'm on the fence about this one. I don't know that I'd set up a camera, but I'd alert the cops any time there was traffic or noise. I wouldn't want my family around a meth lab. I certainly wouldn't want to be across the street when they blew the place up or somebody decided to start shooting.

Sorry that Count Chocolatey lives across the street from you. He's going to federal prison soon though... Smilie

Hummmmm, I don't see the issue here.

You said you suspect they have a meth lab, and everybody knows meth labs tend to explode.....

So, if that house exploded and/or just burned down (of course when nobody is at home), nobody would be all that surprised, correct? ...

probable would not install a camera solely to monitor their house, but for safety of my own house. Seems that you will have to ride it out and just build up enough of a case that the cops finally visit them often enough to get them to move on their own.

He said they're they all the time, so they're not doing a good job. Maybe his friend the Commissioner can do something about getting someone more effective on the police force.

I gotta wonder, though, is the title directed at you or them?
