I was going to exchange and return a few things that were wrong but I noticed on my receipt that with the prorated coupon, the pens for $3.99 had a coupon reduction of $3.40. I assume that means that I will only get $.59 for the return? I wanted to exchange for the correct item. Will they do an even exchange or just credit me the $.59?
What was the reduction from? If it was rewards you should get those back if they are not expired or from a "refund" coupon. But yes, if you do a straight return in one transaction and then a rebuy in another transaction you only get back the net of $.59. If you do a return/rebuy in a single transaction I believe the coupons carry over if they are not expired. Not totally sure about that as have only done 1 return/rebuy in a single transaction. What are you exchanging for?

I love all the pages about a "Paypal reader" without any mention of what the deal was in the Twiki or original post. I went back many pages and never found any post describing what the deal is or even what a "Paypal reader" is. I guess everyone is supposed to know. I finally looked it up on Staples.com and Google, so now I know, but I'm surprised when Slickdeals so often spoonfeeds all the details in the OP or Twiki (which is my preference) this time it was really an "in-crowd-only tribal-knowledge" type of deal.

Not having a smartphone, I'll pass, though I guess it's cool that you can get these for free. For $30 per month per line for a measly 2 GB, I'm not getting a smartphone until dumb phones are no longer made. I'm still a bit confused why a person needs a reader and can't just enter the 16 credit card digits into the smartphone, but there must be a reason.

Paypal is reimbursing up to 3 PayPal readers. Easy to MM or cash out rewards

It's not some "in-crowd-only tribal-knowledge" type of deal. There is an active thread for it in Deal Talk here http://slickdeals.net/f/5840532-free-Paypal-credit-readers-at-staples?v=1.

Read that thread and you'll (maybe) see what's going on. No phone needed for this "deal"

So most people getting them are using them to cash out $15 x 3 of Rewards rather than to use them with their smartphones? I guess that works, but to get your $15 x 3 don't you have to set up the software on each smartphone to your PayPal account to get the credit? It seems like a bit of work for cashing in $45. I'd much rather cash in Rewards for something that's a Staples Easy Rebate... that takes just a couple minutes online.

Ah. 2 different threads. I don't use deal alerts, so my eyes have to catch something that looks interesting. My eyes never caught the Paypal reader thread. I think my comments were more just in general wondering why nobody updated the wiki with a link to that thread mentioning the deal. The OP and Wiki are always the first place I look.

EDIT: So apparently it doesn't require a smartphone. Well, it's tempting if it's that easy, but my Rewards are good for many months and I'd rather not have to deal with Paypal, so I'll still pass.

Anyway, thanks for answering the questions.

Paypal is only for skus priced less than $10. Find the rebate at Stapleseasyrebates.com then click on the rebate, then click on FORM, and at the bottom, the forms of payment are detailed. Or often in the rebate it will tell you the types of payment for that rebate.

The reduction was from my Rewards Check. Rewards do not expire til 3/31. It was the Magic Grip Pens. I got the wrong one and was going to exchange them (along with my Pastel ream of paper and Lysol bought in 2 previous transactions).

Guys you can make around 10 dollars by doing the following deal.

Buy 3 paypal readers 45.00 (get 45 dollars back by redeeming the codes)
1 stapes MP paper 6.99 (free after SER)
Total 51.99
Use 10 off 50 OD coupon , Pay 41.99+tax and get back 51.99

Good for those who want to convert their rewards and gift cards into cash.

I have $179.52 Balance Coupon and a $40 ink rewards coupon. For the life of me I can't figure out a way to use the $179.52 in one transaction. Guess I will have to wait for a software deal Frown

This week, I have only bought the Lysol wipes online but still not on my account so not sure if the rewards will show up.

Since I have not recycled any ink cartridges this month, should I jump in today for all 20, or just 5? Any chance there will be an email blast Tuesday that will deal with ink?

Now to figure out what to get today. With over 1272 posts on this alone, it gets a tad confusing Embarrassment

$179.52 Balance coupon: If you haven't already bought them, the TurboTax, McAfee, Quicken deal would eat up about $130. Add the 2 versions of Total Defense that is Free-after-MIR ($70). You may also want to throw-in 3 of the Paypal readers. Use the 20% bag coupon that starts tomorrow and stack with a $10 off $75 app coupon. Subtotal would be about $186. Rebates would be about $150 and Paypal would add another $45.

Maybe I am just overlooking it. How come some people are getting $40 in ink coupons and others like me are only getting $30? Also, remember to look at the price of HP ink on your account. You may have the account specific discount, like I do. Look at my post above one example.

Because the Rewards people are bad at math.

People who cancelled the transaction got $40 back. Some representative made a wrong calculation and gave a few dollars more. $30 is the right amount.

P.S. Did any get the refund for the ink yet. I thought it is 48 hours already, but still receive nothing yet. I hope the representative didn't mess up again.
