Deal Details

Someone posted about this computer before, but I don't know if they realize you can use the new $75 Staples coupon to knock the price down to $265 + tax....I thought I had better alert some people who want to get a great deal on this computer. Here's the link to the computer at Office Depot.....I just picked one up at my local OD here in Nashville

Shot down via corporate memo stating do not accept coupon unless it's the exact same model. Apparently sent around 730pm central. Would have bit .. oh well. Good deal to those who got it

I went to three stores. One accepted it with no questions, one said no because they didn't have the same model computer, and the last one just said no lol. Oh well, at least I got one...

Can you elaborate on that for us not so tech-saavy folks:
Toshiba, bad. Lenovo, good.

Can you do a clean install on a pre-installed OS computer if you don't have a key in hand? Or can you just insert a DVD created from an MS ISO and the computer inserts the key that is in the computer's BIOS (somebody mentioned earlier that is how computer manufacturer's store the OS keys nowadays).
I do believe lenovo allows you to create recovery media which can be used to do a clean no-bloatware install

personally, I just grabbed a copy of win 7 pro x64 from MSDNAA, but that won't work unless you have a subscription of course

Seems like a great deal for $305. 17.3, ram and hd gb seem solid. Why isnt this getting any love?
Just went to a Staples by me. They wouldn't price match to $429 AND do the coupon. One or the other.

Would you go with that toshiba for 17" for someone older or with the Toshiba C855-S5350 15" for 255+tax?
Toshiba's are generally lower quality than Lenovo and Intel CPU's are significantly faster than AMD's. That being said AMD does win in the graphics dept. So if you're not going to be doing any gaming, definitely get an Intel processor.

I would not get that Toshiba, at least get an i3 processor.

As soon as i asked the salesperson about laptop, he mentioned that that they will not accept Staples coupon, now they are OOS (2). Interestingly, also many stores around which were OOS now show in stock !!!!

Good deal for ppl who got the deal....

I bought one in the afternoon and the cashier said "sorry this coupon is Staples" the manager came over looked at it and said "this is only for HP computers"

I said it excludes a HP model and clearance items He said "ok" and took the coupon.

Went back tonight when the next shift was on and the night manager didn't even pick up the coupon just keyed in his code at the register.

In for 2 Big Grin

I just repped you....I think my brain's fried...Staples wouldn't do it but I just could've got to OD and have them match the coupon...You're smart. Thanks.

Exactly, Staples is $499 AR, but OD is $379 AR then $75 coupon is $305. I'm really contemplating it.

Windows 8 stores the key in the bios, you don't need the key and will never get one on a OEM installed copy... Licensing on 8 sucks. If your laptop goes in for repairs and the MB is replaced you will get a new key. but the new key is NOT transferable. (IE you sell it your suppose to delete windows) but it IS transferable if the original motherboard is still in the laptop. This applies to PC's too.

MS can, and does screw up wet dreams.

the key will always be on a sticker on the laptop, if it is not you can contact m$ and they will tear the manufacturer a new a-hole Stick Out Tongue
WRONG! MS will set you straight when you call.

Windows 8 no longer uses stickers on OEM installed copies. The key is in the bios.

Would this make a decent Hackbook? I just noticed that the Macbook Air & Pro use the same graphics card as this Lenovo.

I think my mom won this deal. I told her about the computer and she decided she should get one. She tried to pick it up at the same store as me but by the time she made it a new store manager was in and refused. However, the manager offered to match the 10$ off 40$ offered by office max (my mom doesn't SD so she had no idea about it, it was simply offered). So she picked it up for $340-$10=330+tax and was fine with that. On her way back home she ran errands and ended up going by another OD. She went in with the receipt and tried to get the 75. They let her no problem plus gave her 10 off 40 as again. So she ended up getting 85+tax back on her card. Grand total of $265.20. Her first slickdeal, and a very slick deal indeed. She didn't even realize she got 10$ off twice. She heard them mention it in the second store and thought they were undoing the first 10 off she received in order to give her the 75 off coupon. Not sure why some stores gave customers a harder time than others, but it was a good deal for everyone who got in today.
