Isn't the i3 a much better CPU?

A6-3400M - 1,984 [cpubenchmark.net]
i3-3120M - 3,501 [cpubenchmark.net]
That's my point Big Grin But the A6 has a better GPU though. Well, I would build a desktop for gaming, that's why I bought this Lenovo bounce

But HP is more expansive than this one. This one is the best laptop below $300 so far.
Of course, but I was answering his question specifically, which was whether this computer is comparable to the HP his brother intends to replace.

I believe the CPU on the Lenovo is significantly faster, but that's about the only thing. Imo, it isn't worth an upgrade
It depends, the reason that Llano based A6s have lower scores because by default they constantly operate at reduced speed, even during benchmarking. But they are extremely easy to overclock and once they are at their "normal" speed the performance is approaching a low end 2nd Gen i5 (w/o turbo boost), which has similar performance to a 3rd Gen i3. Besides raw CPU power is probably one of the least important factor in choosing a laptop, unless you are doing tons of video editing.

If he doesn't know which laptop is better - do you think he's going to want to take the time to overclock?

If benchmarking doesn't kick the CPU into high speed, what will? And I assume overclocking is out when it comes to laptops.

I had gotten the $299.99 Samsung A6 laptop from Best Buy...would get this instead with the $75 Staples coupon if it were still in stock at my local ODs. Would lose out on the extra USB ports, Bluetooth, and better GPU. But gain RAM and faster CPU.

I bought this online and picked up in store on Sunday. Any chance they'd do a price adjust if I brought in the coupon and my receipt?

I just took my receipt and got a $75 price adjustment by using the coupon.

Bought another one with the $75 off Staples coupon.

One of the best deals on a laptop this year. $265 + tax for a decent 3rd gen i3 laptop. Big Grin
I took my two receipts in and got $160.50 back! SWEEET deal!

as long as you never want to replace the wifi card with something not blessed by lenovo these are indeed great machines.

Me, I have a clear wireless card on a grandfathered plan. lenvo just gives me a boot error to remove it so I am on the hunt for something else.
Works fine with my AT&T Pace Wireless N DSL modem. Guess I'm lucky..

Can you explain please.
Coupon is Staples but G580 is in Office Depot Store. How does it work?
Quote from jcvu View Post :
OD accepts staples coupon, but YMMV though
Quote from charlie460 View Post :
I know my local OD will not price match these type of coupons, only sales for specific models.
The corporate policy says they take all competitor coupons.

Office Depot takes competitors coupons

My location will not take competitor's coupons on computers. Just saying. YMMV obviously
That's not what the policy says though. Office Depot coupons exclude computers but if the competitor specifically STATES computers they should have to take it...

Just picked this up this evening for about $280 with tax in NE! This deal is hot hot hot!

Thanks and rep to everyone that posted about this deal!
Quote from KITHPOM View Post :
Pretty good deal if it works. Kind of silly for Office Depot to accept a Staples coupon on a computer that Staples doesn't sell.
Model doesn't come into it if specific models aren't listed on the coupon.

I consider this to the best budget laptop deal this year so far. Just can't believe that a couple of days ago I was so happy to get this laptop for $340+tax and now that it's even much cheaper at the $265+tax deal I'm so Big Grin bounce woot
YES, I agree! We got one ORIGINALLY with $46.96 in Office Depot Rewards for $316.83 now with coupon and tax reduction it cost $236.58!!

The second one we got with two packs of paper on sale and a $5 off $25 coupon for $367.00 after coupon and tax reduction we got G580 and 1000 sheets of paper for our new Brother 2280DW for only $286.75!

In the words of Bernie Mac, that's niice, REAL nyyce! laugh out loud nod

You would think so, right? But it doesn't due to super conservative throttling settings. Anyway the whole Llano based APU thing is hard to explain. Overclocking the Llano based APU is extremely simple on a laptop, it's entirely software based and works on almost all laptops. The newer Trinity based APU are completely locked now.

You can return them IF they are un-opened. Did you open all of them...?

FYI - I bought this laptop over the weekend. long story short, if you want to retroactively apply a coupon to your purchase and don't want to leave the house, you can do so if you settle for a $50 credit.

tonight i tried calling support and asking for retroactive credit and was told OD does not honor competitors coupons, and even if they did they do not apply coupons to technology items.

HOWEVER, i then tried online chat help. i was told that online chat can not match a competitors coupons, but that OD has a similar coupon for $50. And that's the story of how i received a $50 credit for this laptop while drinking beer in my pajamas.
