My local (Houston) Target had all sorts of electric heaters piled up on shelves at 70% off.

While all Clearance is YMMV, as you can see from the attached pictures, they had quite a lot of stock left.

There were several makes and models, ranging from small under-the-desk fans with a heating coil to the oil filled "radiator" types.

I've included the "radiator", DCPI 085-19-102 type in the attached photos, originally $50, it's marked down to $15. I almost bought one, and I have no need for a heater at all (It's February and I'm still having to keep the AC on. Crazy...)

don't these things turn your electric meter into a high speed drill?

Seriously, I was up a couple nights working in the basement and decided to turn on the crappy little fan heater. What a surprise I got when my electric bill was double what I usually pay this time of year...

Last two posts sound like serious reseller talk trying to get people not to buy up their stock they want to grab off the Target shelves.

Atleast for me heating oil is so much more expensive than say electricity cost. I live in NY and pay $3.8/gal in oil heating as oppose to ~$.18/kw. So for me supplementing with electric heating is cheaper in the long run.

I'm sure burning wood could be cheaper but don't have fireplace. Natural gas not available where I live so that is also out of question.

Electricity bills can certainly vary, however electricity cost is on avg. $.11/kw nationally....again average so some places can be more expensive than others....places such as NY paying 3rd highest energy cost even though we produce 3rd highest electricity in the country!!!! Even with such high electricity rates it is still far cheaper than paying for heating oil.

Back to the topic....I checked the nearest Target store (NY-Long Island) and none are on sale as of today....Hopefully northeast will have this 70% sale soon!!

Does anyone know, can we buy this now and get it adjusted once sale starts??? How many days to return this item in Target?? I say that because they do have stock now but once sale starts who knows...don't wanna take the chance plus I don't even know when this sale would actually start in North East.

Any suggestion would be helpful. Thanks.

Could it also have to do with what you were doing in the basement? High-power plug-in tools, shop vac, 500W halogen work light, etc? Running a heater is like running a 1500W hair dryer. It will surely use a lot of electricity when its on, but I assume the thermostat keeps it from running constantly, once you reach a certain temp.

BTW... on Long Island (Farmingdale, anyhow), the heaters are not on clearance yet. Guess they're waiting for it to get a little warmer, first. I have my eye on a Honeywell ceramic heater with a digital thermostat.

What's the likelihood of getting a manager to price match the rest of the chain? Seeing as it looks like everything from Indiana to the west coast is on 70% clearance.

Or will Target price adjust a return or allow a repurchase at clearance price?

There are still a ton at the Altamonte Springs store in FL. I found the last Vornado tower heater. Was $90, got it for $26. Sadly I needed one earlier in the winter and had paid $50 for a much smaller model. You can't beat these 70% off deals.

Which state. Trying to gauge when the northeast will get the clearance.

Obviously regional, and tied to demand/weather. Here in Iowa (9" snow yesterday) the Targets have lots of them in stock - at a whopping 30% discount.

I expect they'll drop to 70% about when the snow melts and the ground starts to peek thru.

Don't know if I believe this when the midwest is getting pounded still and places like Indiana have the 70% going.

(Plus I just want to be on the ball, as the Target I checked Monday had employees stocking spring stuff by the pallet load.)
