Bob Woodward: White House said I would ‘regret’ it if I pursued the story

Quote :

Longtime Washington Post reporter Bob Woodward is taking on the White House, saying in multiple interviews that the administration essentially threatened him to try to get him not to write a story.

Politico has an interview with Woodward and his correspondence with top Obama economic adviser Gene Sperling, in which Sperling apologizes for raising his voice at Woodward in a phone call but then proceeds to say Woodward would "regret" it if he pursued his story — about whether Obama had moved the goalposts on the sequester.
"But I do truly believe you should rethink your comment about saying that Potus asking for revenues is moving the goal post," Sperling said in the e-mail obtained by Politico. "I know you may not believe this, but as a friend, I think you will regret staking out that claim."

Woodward, who didn't name Sperling in his interviews, which occurred before the actual e-mails came out, said that last sentence amounted to a thinly veiled threat.

"'You'll regret.' Come on," he said. "I think if Obama himself saw the way they're dealing with some of this, he would say, 'Whoa, we don't tell any reporter 'you're going to regret challenging us.'"
this was the article which was written..

It's slightly ammusing because the WH and Obama have gotten away with absolutely anything and everything in the MSM. Now that I look at info like this.. maybe that's because if they don't... there's a price to be paid? Is this how the 2012 election coverage was handled too?

woodward says he is taking it as a threat....that's all that counts...if he feels threatened, then that's what counts....the libs keep telling us that if a woman FEELS a joke is sexual harassment or someone FEELS a joke or statement is racist, then that is all that counts, not whether it was intended as one or not....
Where did Woodward say he felt threatened?

If the lunch meat called spam became the catchword for a depersonalized email message, then social networking should be known as soylent green!

are you serious or just being your usual self? HE'S the one who outed his run-in with the white house, HE'S the one on the interviews saying he felt uncomfortable and threatened...

Good lord, multiple mods have come out saying to cut the insult bullshit when dealing with gun control. If you want the same deal with "libs" I suggest you PM them and figure something out, until then get off your horse.

he says he's taking it as a threat not because he felt threatened, as exemplified by his email reply, but because he wants attention. if he's doing this because he wants attention, then that is what counts. and since he's doing this because he wants attention, we shouldn't give it to him.

In reality, he did not say that:

Quote :
Woodward, who didn't name Sperling in his interviews, which occurred before the actual e-mails came out, said that last sentence amounted to a thinly veiled threat.

"'You'll regret.' Come on," he said. "I think if Obama himself saw the way they're dealing with some of this, he would say, 'Whoa, we don't tell any reporter 'you're going to regret challenging us.'"
He said he did not think Obama agreed with Sperling's "thinly veiled threat."

You're really stretching to say that Woodward felt threatened. Maybe threatened with loss of access (his priviledged position), but he already knows that's a possibility.

I'd hate to see what a stiff breeze does to Woodward's nerves. What a non-story.

Exactly where is the link of him saying he felt "threatened"?

let's put this into broader perspective.

nixon abuses executive power, woodward's blows the lid off things.
bush abuses executive power, woodward praises him.
obama follows the law and refuses to abuse executive power (in the instance of military funding in the face of cuts), and woodward throws a hissyfit.
