Its GONE

DEAD!

As a note, they sold units they hadn't received. Suspected arrival date being Friday the 15th. Not anticipating these shipping out this week at all.

How one cab be a beta tester?
I'm am registered with center code. Do a google search. They will send you survey to see if you qualify and if you do, they will let you test. The incentive for this was, we got to keep the Roku box. It's an Roku 3 box but with a clear plastic cover.

If you want to watch netflix/hulu only with crappy, pathetic transcoded local content only then Roku is for you. However if you want to catalog your Bluray Library into high quality MKV files withfull DTS and basically any other format you want and to be able to play them over DLNA server or via USB then get a WDTV Live Plus for the same price. It does netflix every bit as good however you are missing all the little gimmick channels that Roku has boatloads of. My Roku is a waste of space except for The Blaze. And if WDTV got that channel I'd throw it out the window.
Plex app will more or less do that for the Roku. Downloads all the metadata for TV Shows, Movies, Music and streams from your comp to the roku, iphone, ipad, android phone/tab, etc.

Appreciate input from current owners as I am already in the market for another.
Repped! TY OP
I'm a current owner of a Gen1 box. This little machine is amazing. One aspect many people here don't seem to discuss... which is surprising considering this is slickdeals! The place where we are looking to save money... is that the Roku uses about the same power as a night-light while streaming! Which means 5 watts give or take!
Now here is a good reason to upgrade... the new machine is more powerful, yet according to Roku's claims, this allows it to stream at about 30 times less than a gaming console. Many HTPC's of which people mention here run pretty close give or take to a gaming console. So you have the power savings. And if you're like me, and live in a warm climate such as So Cal, then in the summertime you don't want to generate more heat than you need to in the house.
So power savings... and the higher response Roku claims... along with some new wifi technology I'm attempting to find out more about are pretty good reasons to upgrade to me. See an article about the features, and some great channel options:
To the above poster talking about Blaze TV, why not check out the BBC or RT.TV for an alternate perspective. RT (Russian but in English TV was great to watch when the meteor crashed). Also available all together in one place on NowhereTV private channel.
http://thecreativealternative.com...-to-cable/
go see the article, if the channels available and capabilities of the machine look good, buy on Amazon. for get J&R unless you want slow shipping, and sometimes late in just getting it to begin shipping. Amazon will be quick usually. Use Prime for 2-days!

I use a smart strip, so it, my Blu-ray player and soundbar only draw power when the TV is on.

finally got around to installing the plex server. Had the Plex app for a year from some deal. Not about to pay for the Winphone 7 so my Sony S tablet does the trick nicely. Too bad they don't support WDTV, I have two and really like them. I have a my laptop with a 15 HDMI to my home theater. I wish I had OTA local news and I'd drop satellite in a heartbeat.

Search for RoksBox. It is an excellent plugin that allows you to host a server and stream it to Roku. I used it on first generation Roku. I think it should work on others. However it is a bit technical as you need to set up a server.

Well you got to add other cost - cable, keyboard, mouse, memory card, case etc.
True, though some good deals on SD make it easier :-) I'm using the Lenovo Multimedia Remote with Keyboard N5901 for keyboard/mouse and a 4GB SD card. A good 5V 1A power supply from adafruit and really the case is the only custom thing you need...

well, and patience at times

Got my Roku 3 from Amazon, just hooked it up today, upgrading from my Roku 2 xs. The difference is night and day, I used to have to wait for cover art to load all the time on Plex and Netflix, now its all instant. On the Wi-Fi on my Roku 2, I would only be able to stream at the most 1080p 8.0 mbps with Plex, and would often get buffering. On the Roku 3, I'm streaming 25gb 1080p files at 20.0 mbps flawlessly (I have a 50down/25up Verizon fios net). The bottlenecking factor was surely the wireless and processor on the Roku 2.
