This week, Radioshack got Virgin Mobile LG Optimus Elite Smartphone [radioshack.com] on sale for $49 (regular price $99). No contract is required!
Use the $10 off $20 coupon from here or print it straight from Radioshack Facebook [facebook.com] to bring the price down to $39.

This might not be the most powerful Android device out there (duh!), but for only $39, it's still a great entry-level and/or backup smartphone. It runs on Android 2.3.7, has a 3.5-inch HVGA touchscreen, 800MHz processor (actually runs at 1024MHz according to independent CPU tests), Wi-Fi and microSD capability, 5MP autofocus rear-facing camera and camcorder with flash.

If you are having activation issues on your new device after following the "Swap Phone" instructions on Virgin Mobile's website, follow the instructions from this post.

This phone will work on the $25 grandfathered plan; it has been confirmed! DON'T CALL Virgin Mobile about this or they will find a way to pull the plug on this.

This is a CDMA device, it will not work on any GSM networks worldwide.

Copy the link and paste it rather than clicking on it, so you can get 10 off coupon directly

Once I downloaded Power Tune Up [google.com] and tweaked the settings just a little, I can get the Elite battery to go throughout the day until I get home with moderate use. Obviously there are lots of battery savers out there, but Power Tune Up is one of the better ones I've found, plus others rate it 4.4 out of 5.

When I bought mine a few minutes ago the clerk offered a 2 year protection plan for $8.99. I figured for 2 years I can play around with this thing and if it messes up or bricks somehow, it'll be worth it!

UPDATE: Independent CPU benchmarks for his phone actually found it has a 1024Mhz processor despite the official specs listing it at 800MHz on the box.

Some RS managers will demand that you activate the phone with them in order to get the deal. Just tell them it's a gift and the recipient will activate it whenever he/she feels like.
Some RS managers will even refuse to take the $10 off $20 coupon. Just remind them it is currently advertised on Radioshack's official corporate Facebook page.

Is it still possible to swap one of these onto the grandfathered $25 plan? I'm guessing not?

DEAD (at least in my local area). Just tried it at two stores in the Philadelphia area. Both informed me that the coupon had been deactivated because it had been abused.

FALSE! The coupon is alive and active on Radioshack official Facebook page. I just used it at my local RS (Bethesda, MD) this morning with no problem whatsoever.

Probably! Even though, according to official VM, Triumph was the last device capable of that lol

I was wondering that too. I got one for my son a few months ago and was able to grandfather him in, but technically I shouldn't have been able to. Has anyone tried it? I'd like to replace my old Optimus V.
