Link to Family Plans [t-mobile.com]

OK, this is kinda related to this thread about a new T-Mobile plan, but I want to highlight the Family Plans.

So as an individual you get unlimited min/txt + 500mb of data plus hotspot for $50

but as a Family you get a better deal.

2 Lines for $40 each ($80)
3 Lines for $30 each ($90)
4 Lines for $25 each ($100)
5 Lines for $22 each ($110)

and each person gets the same plan as the the individual paying $50

Plus no contracts required, so if you pool with friends and your friend is a dead beat, no worries about him costing you $200 for an ETF.

Also in my case, I was previously on the Family Value plan was paying $5 for 200mb but now it's included and upgraded to 500mb with free hotspot. So I'm saving $5/line

*you can switch over as long as you are at least 18 months into your existing plan. You will still have to finish out your current plan even though this says "no contract" but if you are out of contract this will not extend your contract.

**corrected my earlier statement, 2GB is available for $10/month, if you want to pick and choice which line gets more data, add the 500MB first then edit each line individually

It was going to be per line. I went in on another phone on the plan and it was giving me the same $20 monthly discount
Are you sure it doesn't only apply to your add-a-lines? I've only heard something similar like that but only for their add-a-lines.

I have 4 lines now for the family. This looks like a good plan to switch given that we don't need to use web that much. $100/4lines seems fine for us. My concern is whether or not 500MB a shared data plan for 4 lines (meaning each lines has 125MB data) or each line has 500MB data. Please advice anyone, thank you.

I am also interested in the public reply to, and opinion on, this question. We have 3 people here in VA, and 2 in MI. We're going from a MyFave plan to this new one, but its only cost effective with 5 lines. The unlimited texting and data will be a nice addon, for a total difference of $12 per month.

Also, we have a monthly loyalty discount on our account. How is the best way to switch to the new rate structure, phone, web, or in person at a corp store?

Thanks guys and gals for the AWESOME info over 20 pages, you're gonna save me enough every month for at LEAST an 18 pack of beer, or a small bottle of nice rum. I'll drink one for my homies on SD!
Did you try to switch yet? I don't think the area codes would make much difference. As for how best to switch, I've always had the best luck on the phone - you can always escalate your issue/inquiry to retentions if need be, who can definitely do more for you.

Why do they check your credit if it is a no contract plan?

They do if you plan to finance a phone with them. If you choose to buy a phone outright or just use their plan with your own phone, they don't check.

Was a new customer a week ago or so..Had two new Nexus 4's subscribing to the family plan. THey would not do it for whatever reason without running a credit check. I really didn't understand the need, but maybe I got in on the plan early before the agents really learned about the plan.

If you're going for the phone EIP, yes. If you go for prepaid, and I believe a SC plan without the phone EIP, then no check.

For those who signed up for this plan, could you give an estimate on how much taxes are and how they are calculated (per line, per account, etc.)?

Its still post paid so you use their service before you pay them. For one they tell you the line of credit you are eligible to finance, whether you use it or not. Then they don't need a no name running away without paying their bill.

Roughly 12%. It likely varies depending on your state though. There is no taxes on the EIP payments since you pay that up front.

new plans will really save you money if after 2 years you decide to keep your phone for awhile yet. They also make it easier and probably cheaper to switch phones more often than every two years. You have more freedom.

If your contract has expired and you are paying more on your current plan than this new Simple plan, you should switch before the billing date. And you should do this over the phone, and not online. I just did. The reason you should do it over the phone is that they will be able to apply the new cheaper rate to your current month retroactively. If you do it online, you will be paying whatever you are paying for the old plan and the rate for the new plan won't apply until the next billing cycle.
