And some more notable deals that I can't research because I was just looking for high end routers at the moment.

Pretty good price on some of them, especially the newly released router like the AC66U and r6300. Reading the reviews, if you only need b/g/n, then you better save your money and get the RT-N66U.

Stick with RT-N66U if you DONT have any "ac" certified cards. I like Netgear products. But I stick with ASUS because usability and open source developments.

Not true. Even on N devices I am still getting maximum performance out of N now and my range is complete throughout my house. No need for bridges or extenders. I am waiting for a suitable AC adapter (has to be USB 3 and not suck like the ones on the market currently)

I am about to purchase this router, just a heads up on anybody interested in the 3rd party firmware.

There are 3 other options.
- Asus Merlin(http://www.lostrealm.ca/tower/node/79), this fixes a lot of the bugs Asus hasn't fixed and extends some functionality but for most part the router ui looks identical the stock asus firmware.
- Tomato USB
Recommended Build : (non-64K CFE/NVRAM):
tomato-K26USB-1.28.0501.3MIPSR2Toastman-RT-N-VPN.trx
(http://www.4shared.com/dir/v1BuIN...r=DZlwxyB7)
- DD-WRT(I haven't done much research on what build to use etc).

fyi...This the "R" version, not the "U" version sold on Amazon, so submitting a PM may not work. The hardware may be the same but apparently, this router supports 32k NVRAM builds, NOT 64k. You can also update your CFE if you plan on flashing Tomato.

With this router, I really don't see the need to flash third party but some people may find this useful ----> http://www.dd-wrt.com/phpBB2/view...p?t=162800

I agree for most part, the 1 thing that I need is openvpn server mode and that is one thing the 3rd party builds enable.

The merlin builds are supposedly very good and rock solid.

Been waiting for the Asus RT-N66U to hit 129.99 like it has a couple of times in the past

After tax it was around 145.00 with free shipping. Spent 15 bucks more than I wanted but was sick of playing the waiting game.

Darn you sales tax and Best buy's change of one letter on the model number so other places don't have to pricematch!!!!!

Ugh... N66 or AC66? Decisions, decisions, decisions.

Anyways, from all the digging I've been doing, the U and R have no differences. They may have their own pages on Asus's website, but people have confirmed using U firmware on R will work just fine.

Now, to get the N66 or get the AC66 for future-proofing and not have to upgrade for [hopefully] a long time.

Does anyone prefer one over the other? Why? Merlin? Tomato? DD-WRT?

How much faster is N66 vs the N56? Just got the N56 and wondering if I should replace it.
