I've been using the Walmart app on my android phone for a good 3-4 weeks now with excellent results. Aquired good amount of 22lrs, 9mm, 380, 7.62 and 223 rounds during that time. Luckly I have 13 walmarts in my city and was able to hit the walmarts that have the ammo in stock.

You can find the free walmart app on android market or itunes. And these are what I learned so far while using it.

1. When it shows the ammo is in stock, it means several things. As soon as the ammo is scanned at the main warehouse, it shows its in stock. That means the ammo is anywhere from the main warehouse, on a truck and being still transported to your walmart. Or, it's sitting in the back of the stockroom at your walmart (in pallets) and not taken out to the floors yet. Or, shady employees are hiding it so they can buy it later.

2. Walmart is the most efficient and has the most advance inventory management in the world. If the employees are telling you different about the app, then they are misinformed or wrong. There are too many coincidence where I went to the walmarts that showed "in stock" and it was there. And too many times, after I buy the last box, 10-30 mins later, it shows "out of stock".

The other day, I went to one of the walmarts early to pick up some 22lrs that shows in stock early in the morning. Was told by the worker there that they didn't get any shipment in that morning. I stated otherwise...... manager even came to me and stated the same thing. Instead of arguing, I left to hit up other walmarts. Came back 1 hr later (app still showing its in stock), sure enough........ after I left, 20 mins later, they brought out that night's ammo shipment. Same again with walmart #2. Worker and manager there swore there was no shipment. But according to the app, the ammo that shows "in stock". changed to "out of stock" by 10am.

3. When it shows "limited stock", it means there are only 1-3 boxes left.

4. Find out when your walmart start selling their ammo. Usually the ammo shipment arrives in the evening and they wont start selling it until the morning. Mine is usually around 7-8am. Every walmart runs different. Some have 3 box limit, some has 1 box limit, some open at 7am, some sell ammo all night. I usually check the inventories at night and plan which walmart to hit in the mornings. Usually the app gets really busy around 6-8am and might crash.

5. The people I've been telling to about the walmart app been getting really lucky. Sure beats waiting in huge lines at bass pro shop or academy. The lines are usually sparse here since not alot know about the app.

****************************************************************************************************************************

Happen to stumble on a gold mine at glockforum.com forum. Using the Walmart app to scan barcodes off ammo boxes to search certain ammo that is not showing up on the usual search. So naturally they saved the pics of the barcodes. Now I can search for tulammo for 9mm.

Great thanks to the original posters in these threads below.

Looks like when I use the iPhone app it only checks the closes 10 stores. We live in indianapolis and there is a Walmart on every corner. Used the app on iPad and it lets u see store avalibility in a map view. Works better for me. But never tought of this. GREAT POST!!
App for the ipad will give a map view of all the walmarts in your city. Very helpful if you have more than 10 walmart stores. Thanks Kegjon

Maybe I am missing something, but how do you get an alert, if you are able to. Seems I can go in and look for an item, just like online, but how do I get it to show me or alert me when something goes back in stock? I have even tried the "email me when in stock" option, but have never gotten an email using that option.

Thanks
You can't set up an alert or anything like that. On the online version there are certain types of ammo that you can't check inventory on anything, such as federal 100 count 9mm. However you are still able to check via the app. Probably won't be long before it's gone there as well. I just check it at about 5:30 every morning when I wake up and stop by the nearby walmarts that show in stock on my way to work around 7. It's not a guarentee, but it's a useful tool.

Def a YMMV....I looked and found a walmart that supposedly had .22LR in stock, according to app, went to the store and the clerk profusely stated no ammo available. Basically, what is in the locked up case is all they have. I even showed him the app and he said well if we had some in stock we would put it out.

So I didn't stand around long to "discuss" this with him any further....no since getting into a pissing contest with a Walmart employee.

Re read the OP.. Just because its showing on the app doesn't mean it hit the floor yet. Yesterday was my first time tracking this saw 9mm n 22 In stock all afternoon.. Being only 10 min away I decided to check it out.. Got there and nothing. Noticed 2 guys talking near the case didn't think much of it n left .. Checked at 8:30pm . App still showing the same. 9:45 out of stock.. I went to the store to see what's up. Found out those sane 2 guys were there all afternoon waiting till 9pm for it to be put out.. It might not work the way u want it to but it is a useful tool .. Now I now kinda how it works at my Walmart .. Prior to this I showed up everyday after work n never got anything .. Now I see why .. And I'm a little more game for the hunt..

You've for a point not arguing with Walmart staff but, if they have some, they have some. They are holding it back for themselves or friends.

A Walmart about 40 miles away has been showing limited stock for the last two days, so that must be inaccurate. It hasn't change - gone out of stock and then back in stock. Just stayed at limited stock. Risked it by calling and the guy claimed sold out in the last week.

This is for the federal brick of .40

The Walmart inventory count is 99.9% accurate! That data is pulled from there inventory order and control database and it's live in real time. The Internet website updates every 10-15 minutes as purchases and inventory are delivered. When the count says they are there they are there. I actually happened to use the program in the last week or so (I am not a real big ammo hoarder) but this has scored everytime for me. I have purchased over 9,000 rounds in about 20 trips to the local Wally Worlds. The key is that you have to know which stores are putting out the ammo when the site says they are in stock, usually in the early mornings (at least in my area). There are 3-4 stores out of 15 within 35 miles of me that are getting ammo almost every day! The Easter Sunday a local WW received 2 bricks of ammo. I went later in the day as it was saying they had stock. The guy says we are all out. I said I checked online and I called and spoke with a manager (which I actually did for this one). He said well I am taking some home but I will sell you three boxes. I said make it six and I won't talk to the manager (he sald me six boxes). WW employees are not supposed to purchase more than three boxes of ammo also. What the employees are doing is having a friend or coworker ring them out multiple times. Just a heads up and my two cents.

Sooo...the app is telling me a local store has 9mm and .223 IN STOCK. Does that mean in stock right at this moment, or it could be in the back and put out at 7am, or what? Sorry, I just don't want to waste gas money if I don't have to

We there are no guaranties in life, but if they have solid stock (blue) then I would say that it is in stock! You really have to know when they stock the ammo as the employees stocking do not know what is coming to be put out. If you watch this on a regular basis, daily or several times a day and notice that they have good stock for your itme then chances are you are good to go. If you decide to call first becuase you have to drive a distance then the ammo clan might grab it first. In my area earlier mornings are the best.

Now the reason I learn about the ammo situation, at least in my area is that a guy and several WW employees all told me the same thing. Watch the inventory, inventory normally is received before midnight daily, scopp it up before the early risers grab it. It is almost like easy pickings in my area. I have been grabbing 22LR, 45acp, 9mm and 223 - as much as they sell to me. Just in the last two days I picked up 2150 of 22LR, 600 rnds of 45acp, 1000 rnds of 9mm and 100 rnds of 223.... and they still have 9, 45, 40 and 22 in stock at several of my local WW

I started using this Sunday afternoon .. Today I did a real track of what I wanted. Only really one major Walmart in my area, the rest are grocery store Walmart. Tracked down my 3 boxes of 9mm, called the sister in law so she could score some. App worked like a charm, all in how you use the tool for your Walmart. You must figure out times stuff goes out to the floor then your golden. If not this stuff isn't staying on the shelves for more than 10-20 min max.

Look at my first post. I wrote 3 different incidences why the app might show "in stock" even though the shelves are empty.

Every Walmart is different sooo you need to follow examples that people did in order to increase your chances. And you should know the first rule of slick deals is to NOT CALL and ask if that particular item is "in stock". Gives reason for employees to snatch it up. Best way is to go in person and chat with the sporting good employee and ask when they first open to sell ammo and get there early next time. From personal experience, there are usually a small line already formed before they start selling ammo in the morning and the higher demand ammo like 22lr and 9mm sells out quick in mins after opening. If u need to call.... just ask when they start selling ammo not if that particular ammo is in stock because the app said so. Be alittle stealthy about it.

You can't expect them to hold on to a very hot item for you until you pick it up at your convience. Getting ammo requires a little work and waste gas.

I was so excited to find winchester 5.56 in stock at my local store that I didn't even check the price when I bought it. When I got home I realized I spent 66 cents per round with tax. Not a good deal Frown

Yeah, I understand what your saying about it not hitting the floor yet but I flat out asked the guy well maybe its in the back sitting on a pallet or something. He said to me...basically he works in that dept full time and if they had any in stock anywhere, including the back, it would be out in the case.

So hard to sit there an argue with that....think I covered pretty much everything!
