With the DOCSIS 2.0 modems, Time Warner was providing their speed boost feature on most plan. They do not provide this with the DOCSIS 3.0. I've encountered the same thing but knew if would happen during my research phase.
Speed boost is more of a marketing gimmick, its not consistent speed. I've done test with speedtest where it went form 30Mbps down to 8 Mbps avg.

I would take consistent 15Mbps speed over over speed boost and 8Mbps avg speed.

Ive read the exact opposite of what you posted.

Im currently on a 2.0 modem. My speed sucks, fluctuating from 4-12 Mbps most of the time, the max I ever got was 22Mbps. I pay for a plan that "up to 15Mbps". Ive read people upgrading to 3.0 and their speed is consistent, sometimes higher than what they pay.

Dont be fooled into thinking they cant cap 2.0, of course they can, they just cap your IP...
no they cap your mac id and SN associated to the modem. theres a code that they apply on their end and your modem downloads the bin file from the tftp server telling it what it can do. Thats how your capped.

Ok, regardless, either way, its not DOCSIS 2.0 or 3.0 dependent. They can do this with any modem.

I was just referring to the capping of a modem. DOCSIS 3.0 can give certain people a more reliable/better connection than DOCSIS 2.0. It depends on if your ISP supports 3.0. Since DOCSIS 2.0 only support a single channel and 3.0 supports up to 4 channels, this can improve your speed by channel hopping. This is based on what ive read on broadbandreports which was posted by reputable posters. I plan on buying one of these modems this weekend to give it a try. If it doesnt help, then Ill just switch back to my old modem.

The modem i have has an outlet for my phone line too, this one does not. Are there other modems that have phone support? Thanks again
I don't know but this will be a great place to start.

Did you call and give them your MAC address?

I've got a 6121 working fine with Charter. Did have to give them the MAC address of the modem over the phone though.

Unplug your old modem and call them and say it died, but you have a new one. You will need all the details, including the MAC address of the old (Dead) modem.

I cannot imagine they would not be glad to have you on DOCSIS 3 anyway. It costs them nothing, while retaining compatibility with 2 is something they pretend costs them money for no reason.

But in case you missed my post earlier in this thread, note that Charter does not actually support DOCSIS 3. They can use DOCSIS 3 modems, but they run a proprietary compile of the DOCSIS 3 standard that drops half the benefits. (Namely the IPv6 support) I suspect the will wait a few years until most users are using DOCSIS 3 and then decide to try to charge them for IPv6 despite it being a required thing these days anyway.

Read the user agreement. It plainly states they use their own compile of DOCSIS 3.

Cheapest I see is $77.50 - $80.

Both offer channel bonding. SB6121 up to 4 channels, SB6141 up to 8 channels. Data rates for SB6121 is 160 Mbps, SB6141 300Mbps. Both exceed anything the average household could see.

I agree, spend an extra $20 and buy the SB6141 to better "future proof" yourself.
It may appear to be a bit of overkill at the moment, but at the rate things are changing these days the 6141 will be obsolete in no time too...
