Are prices on ebay usually about 65 for this? Quick research says yes, so I am holding off for now. I don't really need it for a little while and if it's a difference of 10 bucks I will wait. Thanks in advance
Thats what I paid for the 6141 a few weeks ago. $65 from ebay seller modems-modems. The 6121 was selling for around the same price, but this shows that the 6121 price is declining along with the 6141.

One thing to note is that it appears that the 'brown box' version of this may or may not come with warranty. Motorola only warranties retail product sold by an authorized reseller. Never had a cable modem go bad on me (10+ years) but I've always made sure I had a good earth ground on the house and surge protection on the cable.

There is a lot of unfounded scuttlebutt around that brown box or black colored modems are used. Completely not true.

If I were you I would keep the one you have. Better to not have to deal with rebates. Also, no need for Comcast to come to you. Just call them and read off the MAC address to them and it will register with their network.
Don't even need to do that much. As long as you have your account # and phone number before you plug in the new modem it will do the activation online for you. I just did that last week.

For some reason the "sign in" version where you put in an xfinity login is busted, but at least the account number version works.

I haven't been able to use the xfinity login version in over a month (really? you guys like doing it manually over the phone? no wonder people hate comcast) and the account number version didn't work either. Did three activations over the last ~5 weeks and they all required a phone call after extensive frustration with the online activation. Tried it from a pc connected to the cable modem and from my phone...no joy.

Thanks. I'll keep it then. Comcast said they had to come out since this location didn't have Comcast before. They are fine with me self-install at a different location.

In 4 1. Looking for a wireless router to pair up with this modem, any recommendation?

Thanks.
Not sure if you saw this deal but if you are looking for a high-end router with the updated 6141 modem. I have never used the Netgear Router though so I can't really say if its good or bad.

I just picked one up after seeing it in Neweggs mailing ad today. As soon as I find a great deal on a wireless router, Charter will be getting a call from me.

Indeed. Basically with a docsis 2.0 modem you're driving on a one lane (one channel) road both ways. If that channel becomes congested, you're stuck. With the 6121 and docsis 3, you get four down and four up, if your cable plant is provisioned for that many channels. With the 6141 you get an 8 lane highway down and 4 up. Very little chance of getting stuck on a congested channel, and much more consistency and quality of service.

Look at the results. Bottom two are with the 6121 and the performance was extremely variable. My service then was 25/3, but I usually got variable pings and variable performance. From the 3rd from the bottom up is a 6141. Rock solid no matter when I did a test. You can then see where comcast bumped my speed for free, and I'm seeing a pretty solid 35/5 since then. The good numbers are even more impressive when you consider that the last two weeks have been spring break for the local schools and everyone is sitting home whacking away at the internet, not sitting in school all day.

Both the 6121 and 6141 bonded 5 downstream and 3 upstream channels, but when I took the old 6121 to my ex wifes house across town, it only bonded 4 down and 1 up, so YMMV. In a year or so, everyone should have plenty of channels.

Do note that some ISP's, particularly time warner, are getting bashed for not updating the firmware on customer owned modems, and some really old 6121's and some newer 6141's that have been sitting around a while have older firmware that in some cases disconnects periodically. TW will blame your modem and then install theirs to show you that it works and its your fault. shake head Comcast updated my firmware on provisioning the modem. Motorola will not release firmware for end users, stating that its up to the ISP to provide that. Looking at the 1 star reviews on amazon and newegg, most of them are from TW customers.
Docsis 3.0 also brings greater "increased serviceability and management" which means cable companies will have more tools to limit you to what you have paid for. Check your speed. If your not getting what you paid for get the 6141 on eBay for $75.50. If you have Docsis 2.0 and your getting more speed than what you have paid for stay far, far away from
Docsis 3.0.

Thanks OP, got one, I am getting raped by Time Warner for $3.50/month rent for a far crappier modem. I think it must cost them less than $20 and then they turn around and screw their customers for $$$...
