Time for fishing.

Saw these Zebco Dock Demon combos online when looking for a couple of fishing poles for the kids.

Anybody looking for a good micro pole or a pole for the kids that blows away those crappy Dora/Barbie Disney poles, this is a pretty good deal IMO.

At Wal-mart the Spincast is 10 bucks and the Spinning is 13 bucks. (For young children I recommend the Spincast)
If you buy them on-line and pick them up in store you save 2 bucks on the Spincast and 3 bucks on the Spinning, making an already good deal great.

The Disney poles are cheap and the poles are made of plastic, the dock demons are actually solid fiberglass poles making them extra durable for major bends.

They also have a Zebco Dock Demon Deluxe but to the best of my knowledge the only thing that changes is the Deluxe is 6" longer and the handle is cork. I went to the store and the reel although different color looked and was marked with the exact specifications as the $10 Spinning Dock Demon although Zebco claims the Deluxe has aluminum spool. The deluxe is supposed to have 6 lb Cajun Red fishing line, while the $10 Dock Demon has standard 6 lb line or that could just be a marketing trick? (I don't know if that makes a difference or not to pay 7 extra bucks?)

The reels on the Dock Demons are pure crap, but the pole itself is nice. These are still much better than the licensed-character kiddie combos, but you should plan on replacing the reel (we only got one use out of it before it broke).

Ended up keeping the pole and putting a $10 Shakespeare microspin push-button spincast reel on it. Much, much better starter pole for a kid or dedicated panfish pole.

In your opinion would it be worth the extra 7 for the Deluxe that is 6" longer, cork handle and aluminum spool?

Well, my experience has only been with the push-button Dock Demons. Although, I would personally spend the extra money for the deluxe combo.

However ... that being said, Zebco quality has been heading southward for awhile now. For the money, I'd take a comparable Shakespeare product over its Zebco equivalent any day.

These little poles serve their purpose, but I will say that every so often Walmart puts its Zebco 33 combos on sale for $10. I've bought one each time, and while they're not the 33s I grew up with, they're really good beater poles for kids or to use as back-ups.

For reference

Yeah, I have some 33's but I don't have any micro poles. I thought these poles would be nice to keep in the trunk with a small tackle box if I ever get the itch while out.

If you are fishing off a dock, short casting, or creek fishing it should be more than adequate. If you are doing long casts or going to be fishing a ton I would up it to a full size pole.

I am going to buy the deluxe for me and get the daughter the 8 dollar spincast. I figure for 7 more bucks, I get aluminum spool and a little more rod. If reel sucks, I will still have a very nice fiberglass micro pole and can later replace the reel.

not that this means much, but here is a link I found with what this kid caught with the deluxe. Tells me this pole is pretty d*mn strong.

Not to say that the regular dock demons aren't strong as well. I found some youtube videos with some people pulling out some whoppers with them.
