This week, Amazon Wireless got Kyocera Event Smartphone [amazon.com] on sale for $49 (regular price $79.99). No contract is required! The shipping is free.

This might not be the most powerful Android device out there (duh!), but for only $49, it's still a great and snappy entry-level no-contract smartphone. It has 1000MHz Snapdragon processor and runs on Android 4.0 Ice Cream Sandwich OS.

Most other cheap prepaid Androids I've tried such as Optimus Elite, PCD Chaser, AT&T Fusion, etc., have noticeably slower processors and run on an outdated Android 2.3. Also, for some reason, this Kyocera phone's battery life is A LOT better than those guys.

Other features: 3.5-inch HVGA touchscreen, Wi-Fi and microSD capability, 3.2 MP camera with LED flash and video camcorder, Visual Voicemail, Stereo Bluetooth, Light Sensor, Eco Mode, etc.

UPDATE: TARGET NOW HAS AN EVEN BETTER DEAL ON THIS PHONE:

Quote from Caleo :I paid $150 for my HTC One V. Nexus 4 is easily worth the extra.. especially since you won't have to put up with Virgin Mobile's horrible service (Not that bad? Yeah, it is really "that bad". Take it from someone who's experienced it).

Plus, with Sprint's $30 plan, you save $7 a month or ~$84 a year.. use that extra money for a better phone and enjoy the extra time you gain by not having to always wait for crap to load.

I paid 35 bucks for my two htc one v brand new last year and I just using it as a web cam for my driveway. I am using another as a dashcam.

How do u do that?

Sent from the official Slickdeals App for iPhone & iPod Touch.
50 bucks from virgin mobile sale and fw cashback. Also sold one htc one for 80 bucks.

Is it easy to unlock this and use with Verizon or Pageplus?
probably doable, not easy for me....

Can this be used as a wifi-only device / mp3 / video player without buying any minutes? I am looking for a new mp3 player and was debating on the galaxy player, but this would be a lot cheaper. Would that be a foolish idea?
you might be able to flash different roms if there are developers supporting this phone

Was I really dumb to pay like $280 for Triumph? That phone is a piece of garbage...It really can't do much other than phone calls and email.... The camera works ok but custom roms don't have good support for it... Everything force closes and no update for the phone, ever.... With Virgin Mobile the only way to get a newer android version is to buy a new phone, unless you want to play with alpha release roms...

You know, for $35/month, virgin mobile's service really sucks. I just switched to T-Mobile's $30/mo plan (100 minutes, unlimited text+data) and it's amazing how much difference there is. Not only am I paying $7/mo less (less tax/fees), my data speeds are finally reliable and well over 10 times as fast as the best I EVER got on virgin mobile.

The only downside to switching is having 100 minutes rather than 300, but I never really talk on my cell much anyway (any calling I need to do to family I do via my google voice account).

PS: I had a HTC One V on Virgin Mobile. Decent phone (great quality), though it doesn't really hold a candle to a newer phone such as the Nexus 4.
Agreed! I'm in Sacramento. Virgin Mobile = Sprint Towers = SLOW. Switched to T-Mobile $30 plan and I'm consistently getting ~5+ Mbps throughout the Sac Region.

While that may be mostly true, my Galaxy SII got an optional upgrade from ICS to Jellybean last week. Virgin Mobile sent me a text to let me know it was available.

Afraid of giving up your grandfathered $25 a month plan? Do yourselves a favor, rip off that band-aid!

Android 4.0 phones from Virgin are so much better than the 2.3 phones that the extra $ is worth it.

When Target puts the pre-paid Virgin cards on sale at 15% off, buy a bunch with a Target CC and you'll effectively get down to $30 a month. That extra $60 per year is so worth it for a much better experience.

I'm just saying...
Are you just sayin that discount can't be had for the $25 plan?

Which makes it more than an extra $60 / year.

I wouldn't go for the $35 plan for anything less than a 4G phone.

Anyone know if this phone works with FoxFi?

I agree!!, except for some certain areas (like where I live with my 4s.. only get EDGE.. thank gosh its not GPRS like it was a month ago!, I could buy a tmo phone but I hate having to do so.. maybe the 5 is in my future) in any case TMO's network is extremely fast where its been reframed or upgraded, their HSPA + in Fortworth/Dallas is awesome (no drop outs when I went the other day) to bad I live a hour west... so we miss out on a lot

I have a kyocera rise I got from Target during the Christmas deal and it blows. So buyer beware. Mine is slow, glitchy and the voice to text works worse than it did on my gingerbread optimus v.
I did the same and got the Rise. It really does blow. I wouldn't use it as a smartphone. Personally I use it as an airplay receiver via Air Bubble, MP3 player and internet radio. Video podcasts and Netflix does play ok. It was the cheapest battery powered solution for airplay I could find. The event should be good for the same stuff.

I'm kinda in the same boat... I just want a phone for my daughter to play android games on. If battery life is good without a data or phone line... this is a steal.
I bought the HTC One V for my youngest granddaughter who wanted an iPod like her sister's.
Just don't activate the phone. She is loving it and if lost/stolen/destroyed-a lot cheaper than an iPod. On the HTC you could plug in a 32gb micro SD card for really huge app/music capacity.

This phone is $39.99 at Target! I just bought one yesterday. I really like it.
Anyone else confirm this? Nationwide maybe? Can't find phone on their website, anyone got a SKU # or whatever Target calls it that might help?

I just did the switch from Optimus V to Elite a few weeks back on 2 phones with VM. After countless hours with VM CS trying to get a lost 3G connection back on one phone...I think I am leaving VM for good. This service isn't worth $10 let alone $25 or $35.

Is there any similar phone to the Elite or Kyocera pricepoint on Tmobile prepaid that someone can recommend?

Thanks.

3.5" screen, kind of tiny. .
Back a few months ago they had an LG Slider for $20 and then I got $17 back from cashback site, so $3 total. I didn't activate it and just use it with wifi. I rooted/modded the phone and it works great. But I do not like how small the screen is (3.5"), so I'd would recommend a larger screen. Also, don't forget to check cashback sites.

If only I didn't have to give up my grandfathered $25 plan, I would get this.
Is anyone sure that we would have to give up those $ 25 plans? I switched to a smart phone years ago and kept my plan, and it was after the price increase?
