Thread Details

Just saw this smartphone on sale for $39 at Target. Regular price is $79.99. No contract required!

This is a better deal than we posted yesterday where Amazon had it for $49.99.

Specs: Android 4.0.4 Ice Cream Sandwich, 1000 MHz Snapdragon processor, 3.5-inch HVGA touchscreen, Wi-Fi and microSD capability, 3.2 MP camera with LED flash and video camcorder, Visual Voicemail, Stereo Bluetooth, Light Sensor, Eco Mode, etc.

This phone easily beats other cheap smartphones out there (Optimus Elite, PCD Chaser, Fusion, etc.) because it runs on Android 4.0 and has a noticeably faster processor and a modern design.

I don't know that you can throw off on the Elite too much - especially when it's been $49.99 or less over the last few weeks. Yes, it's still running Gingerbread, but from what I've read Elite's camera is better than this one on the Kyocera. I've got an Elite now that I've had for months, and it's a great little phone. I bought a new one at Radio Shack a few weeks ago for $39.99 plus about $9 for a 2 year replacement warranty.

I'm tempted to buy one of these Events just to try it out since it's $39.99.

If you have a grandfathered plan, the Event will cause you to lose it. Otherwise, I guess it is worth a try.

Virgin backpacks off Sprint right? If so, does this mean it won't accept SIM cards?

Probably stupid question, but does this need to be activated to use it just for WiFi. In other words do I need to purchase a plan if initially going to use it for WiFi?

That's absolutely correct, this is a CDMA phone and won't accept sim cards.

No. The Optimus Elite is the best phone that can unofficially be on the $25 grandfathered plan. The terribly unreliable Triumph being the best official device for the $25 plan.

I had the 'Elite' before, and overall, the 'Event' is a HUGE improvement. Battery lasts a lot longer, display has much better contrast, apps are faster (especially 3D ones like Temple Run 2 etc.). Also, this one has visual voicemail, brightness sensor, and Ice Cream Sandwich, obviously. The only thing 'Elite' got going for it is better camera.
