Never buy from Tigerdirect. Especially rebate items. This company has an awful reputation. Don't take my word for it, go to Google and do some research.
I've only tried one Tiger Direct related rebate - for the Samsung 830 256gb SSD last month - $154 after rebate. I got the confirmation email a few days ago that my rebate had been approved, and the rebate card will arrive in a few weeks.
On a related note, in college I did some phone based tech support for tape/CD backup drives. The amount of user error was incredible. We had to start each call first asking the user, if he/she had plugged the power cord for the drive into the wall, because of how many people thought the drive got power from the data cable, lol. So, while I am not claiming all rejected rebates are the fault of the buyer, given the frequency humans manage to screw things up, it would not surprise me if a good many are human error. I wonder how many people simply fail to sign and date the form, or cut out the wrong bar code?
Some deals I got thanks to SD:
$200.00 - Intel i7-4770K CPU
$75.40 - 32gb (4 x 8gb) Corsair Vengeance 1600mhz RAM
$107.05 - Intel i5-2500k CPU
$54.05 - Kodak ZX5 Playsport video camera
$105.66 - Intel I3 2100 CPU and MSI H61M-E33 motherboard combo
$63.65 - AMD 840 Phenom II X4 CPU and MSI 880GM-E35 motherboard combo
$88.95 - XBOX 360 Arcade 4gb console w/ 2 games
I used to have bad impressions for TD. However, in the past a few years, I don't see any issue with them any more. I would feel pretty comfortable to buy from them now.
Having to cancel my order through the phone is the only thing that annoys me about Tigerdirect.
1)PLEASE avoid posting about CA sales tax & recycling fees
2)The "no HDMI, deal killer" joke isn't funny
3)Avoid comparing video cards to cars, the price ranges are completely different
4)You are NOT going to call your relative to SUE and if you are, you're wasting time
5)Why does Tigerdirect ask for your SSN? No clue, just don't give it to them
6)Black Friday deals aren't as great as people make them seem.
I don't know if I would consider the 1 TB Toshiba a deal. I have not purchased anything from TigerDirect in years (their return policy is often less-than-desirable). Amazon has an equivalent WD Blue for $66 everyday price. WD Blue 1 TB Desktop Hard Drive: 3.5 Inch, 7200 RPM, SATA 6 Gb/s, 64 MB Cache - WD10EZEX.
People who still complain about TD rebates are still living in the way way past. Yes, they were bad 3 or 4 years ago and before that. But I have received all 10 rebates I submitted in the last 2 years, each within 6 weeks of submission, some as quick as 3 weeks. I usually get AMEX gift cards and I use them at Costco or buy GC at Amazon. Just follow the rebate instructions exactly and you're fine; for example, all TD rebates require you to cut the shipping address label at the bottom of the filled printout form to be used on your envelope; don't ask why, just do it and you'll always get your rebate.
With Amazon charging taxes to CA, I find most of my electronics deals at TD.
