Watch the 4:55 part of the video and can judge for yourself on the screen quality.

Fun things to do with the buttons:
Soft reboot -> Vol+ and Vol-, press and hold together for 10sec
Screen Shot -> At the Same time Press Power,Vol+ and Vol-
Recovery options and tools -> When the tablet is off, press and hold the Vol- then also press and hold the Power button until the screen comes on,goes off then comes back on again. Then hit Vol+ to get to the menu
(Vol buttons may change function depending on tablet orientation, the recovery option above was done with the speaker on the top & buttons on the right)

Compatible with the Square credit card reader? Yes!

ROOT:
READ EVERYTHING BEFORE PICKING UP YOUR TABLET. YOU BOUGHT IT, ITS UP TO YOU NOT TO BREAK IT.
Google is your friend if you want to know why to root.

1: Drivers.
The PANTECH drivers are available from their website. Just install the PC suite. It's actually a handy tool and better than samsungs Kies, which I can't get to work anywhere.

2. This blog is a little confusing but read the comment by Josh_Phy for what is almost a 1 click root. Download the dropbox file, unzip it and click the batch file.
http://pantechburst.blogspot.com/...ement.html

This info is also in the Rootzwiki thread: Look at post 157
http://rootzwiki.com/topic/22981-...try1048482

You must read the whole thread. ICS info is new. The first post won't help as those instructions are for GB. Please read and become part of the community. A word of warning: Spoonfeeding is not encouraged or rewarded; be polite and respectful to people who put their time in to fully exploit the potential of these devices.

3. Titanium Backup: Buy it. This is the single most useful app in the entire marketplace. It slices, dices, chops, Juliannes, and does so much to Android that the OS wonders where it has been all its life. Once installed, back up EVERYTHING, upload it somewhere so you'll have a safe backup.
3a. Freeze bloatwear and if after a week or so, you don't notice any problem, then delete it.
3b. As you delete bloatwear, please update this wiki with what's safe and what isn't.

4. Custom Recovery (TWRP) for ICS is here: http://forum.xda-developers.com/s...p=41235707 Follow the instructions.

5. Apps2SD available in the Android store for FREE. I (mavblues) use the one by Gregory House. Works fine - however, it appears to move the apps to the media partition of the internal SD, as opposed to the external SD. However, it's still useful to free up lots of space to add more apps.

If you can't root, I'll try to help, but you must learn to fish, rather than having the fish thrown to you.

I got it unlocked. Popped in verizon sim but still getting no internet connection. Are there any settings that need to be changed?

I've tried from my home pc, also a laptop connected to the same wifi network. No dice.
It won't auto detect, and it won't even detect the tablet when I manually input the IP address of the tablet.
I've checked the running processes, but there's no mention of any pc suite connector app. I believe it needs to be already running to be detected by the pc suite.
I've rooted the tablet, and took a peek in the system/app folder, and it would seem I'm missing the original .apk. Not sure how or why, it's not there (or I'm unable to recognize it).
If anyone can grab the .apk and send it over or post a link to download it, it'd be much appreciated.
It seems the app is pushed from the pc to the tablet when first connecting via usb in debug mode. Afterwards, connecting via wifi is a breeze.

TWRP over @ XDA! Yay!

Done and working. Custom roms are only a step away.

Ya, great stuff. Though the element is pretty snappy even in stock form, I can't seem to put mine down Smilie.

I am pleased with this Pantech Element. It offers a stable, smooth, quick interface, Google Play, decent quality (excepting several who got unrefurbed units), and a beautiful large screen. Plus, 1GB/16GB, an SD slot, 2 cameras, and water resistant to 3 feet or so.

And now, rooting, recovery options on XDA/rootzwiki. Way better than anything else I came across in the past year at less than $150 for all the features, quality, and stability.

Will be watching to see if someone take it apart and explores a battery .

So it;s a great tablet for those who want t nice, stable device, or for those who are looking to root and customize a bit.

Which root/recovery option did you use? I've been trying wiki/xda/rootzwiki root and it keeps failing. Care to help?
Mine came with ICS 4.0.4 and PC Suite couldn't detect the device.
it is detected by adb, but not fastboot.
Tried to use TWRP recovery but I'm stuck at fastboot screen "waiting for device"

Hmmm.. it might be an issue if you are using with Windows 8. OR, if device not detected, you might make sure you select Debug mode in settings under Delvelopment. Also, in Settings>USB, try MTP. For that matter, try the other USB sellections to see if you can get it to detect. Each time you make a change in Settings, unplug the tablet from the PC, make the change, then plug the tablet back into the USB. I wasn't too sure about all this either, being new to this Android stuff. It is still pretty murky for me, but reading a lot of stuff on the web. The Android "community" has a lot of info, some useful, a lot confusing and subject to change, and also much just pertinent to the particular device you are using. A lot of posts on XDA and rootzwiki assume you know basic terms and functions, not to mention are short comments out of context , unless you keep referring back to previous posts by a particular poster.

I keep wondering if most of these folks are current software gurus in other fields or just fly-by-the-seat- or the-pants experimenters.

I am using mine on a Windows Vista and it had trouble detecting initially, but worked eventually. I started trying all this on another laptop with Windows 7 and had detection issues as well. Not sure why.

I;m not the best one here to ask about rooting. Still not sure of all what I even did so far. Wink

First, I'm pretty sure you have to be rooted before you can put the custom recovery on it, so make sure you rooted properly. The one click root works great - I had to connect via the last type of connection (PC Data Mode). Also make sure you have USB debugging checked. NOTE: if you try it and it doesn't work, you will have to reboot your computer, because the root script keeps running in the background and it won't connect the next time you try it, even if you have everything set correctly.

Second, check out the recovery thread over at XDA. I initially had the same problem with fastboot not working. Just put the recovery image in the same folder as the adb commands (on your computer).

And for those wondering about PC suite, it's a download on the pantech website (same page as the ICS upgrade).

It's so frustrating. I installed PC Suite on my old laptop Win 7 and it's connected already. However, as soon it entered fastboot mode, the driver is missing
I tried unplug/replug USB to different connector, and it's still on <waiting for device>
I even tried to install driver manually from each files pantech folder and still no response
TWRP is on same folder and also set on environment variable
I have done adb devices and it detects as PORORO03111xxxxxxxxxxx
Any suggestion guys?

I wish they have SIM card as well, so I can put it in my iPad. But their OverDrive Pro is pretty awesome. I tether OverDrive to my iPad and laptop everyday.

It's a little Mobile WiFi. You can use the battery or AC adapter.
I would remove the battery if it connects to AC adapter at home for a long period of time.
