What is a VPN? A VPN is a virtual private network, and allows you to securely tunnel your connection to the VPN server, so that it appears that all your data originates from that server. VPNs are also useful on public networks in order to prevent other users from snooping your connection, as all information through the tunnel is encrypted.

From the privacy faq:

TorGuard's Privacy Policy

In an effort to protect our clients' and site visitors privacy and rights, TorGuard has established a Privacy Policy which explains what information we gather on visitors and what we do with information that we gather.

This Privacy Policy governs the manner in which TorGuard collects, uses, maintains and discloses information collected from users of this Web site (each, a "User").
Privacy

Users' privacy is very important to TorGuard. We are committed to safeguarding the information Users entrust to TorGuard.
The Information We Collect

TorGuard collects personally identifiable information from Users through online forms for ordering products and services. We may also collect information about how Users use our Web site, for example, by tracking the number of unique views received by the pages of the Web site or the domains from which Users originate. We use "cookies" to track how Users use our Web site.
How We Use Information

TorGuard may use personally identifiable information collected through our Web site to contact Users regarding products and services offered by TorGuard and its trusted affiliates, independent contractors and business partners, and otherwise to enhance Users' experience with TorGuard and such affiliates, independent contractors and business partners. At no time will TorGuard's database of users ever be sold to any entity for the purpose of marketing or mailing lists. Personal information will not be sold or otherwise transferred to our business partners without your prior consent, except that we will disclose the information we collect to third parties when, in our good faith judgment, we are obligated to do so under applicable laws.

Always read the terms, never trust a FAQ.

Tor Project a free Open Source program that may be useful for people that don't need the full functionality of Premium VPN Services.
Tor protects you by bouncing your communications around a distributed network of relays run by volunteers all around the world: it prevents somebody watching your Internet connection from learning what sites you visit, and it prevents the sites you visit from learning your physical location. Tor works with many of your existing applications, including web browsers, instant messaging clients, remote login, and other applications based on the TCP protocol.

Tor has nothing to do with TorGuard (the service being offered here)

Here are some alternative VPN services that have large selection of servers (worldwide)proxy.sh is $5 month

Setting up BT software Vuze (used to be call Azureus) to only use VPN connection (won't connect if VPN connection not available.)
Here is a tutorial of it.
http://wiki.hidemyass.com/Tutoria...hrough_VPN
Here's a tutorial for utorrent: http://wiki.hidemyass.com/Tutoria...IP_binding
(Remember to un-check make new firewall rule in utorrent settings/prefs)

Enter the interface identifier into the field next to "Bind to local IP address or interface" in the settings.
Note that the interface identifier is named different on every system, so make sure to check how exactly it is called on yours.
In their example, it is "eth15" for OpenVPN, "net2" for PPTP" and "net1" for L2TP.

Make sure the checkbox next to "Enforce IP bindings even when interfaces are not available" is checked;
otherwise it can happen that Vuze keeps downloading without using the VPN.

If the Vuze setup is done correctly, it will ONLY use your VPN connection. If you didn't login to your VPN service, Vuze won't work.

From my understanding/research (someone correct me if I am wrong)....A big 'feature' to consider when choosing a VPN is if they log your activity. It doesn't look like the hotspot shield has that 'feature'; so if you are doing some 'legal' torrenting then the provider will keep track of that and could pass that information on. The OP posted, TorGuard, says "No logs kept..." Another consideration is your internet speed which can decrease significantly when using a VPN depending on where the server connect site is in relation to your location. Luckily TorGuard has a "30 Days Moneyback Guarantee."
If you are just trying to keep your surfing/computer information secure, logs are not a priority, then the Hotspot should be fine.

I tried TorGuard, wasn't happy with the speeds.... but of course your server and mileage may vary.

Anybody use this company? Do they have an "auto disconnect" in their client setup? I'd hate to be downloading a torrent thinking I'm protected and end up finding out the VPN stopped working leaving me exposed. The good VPN companies know this issue and address it somehow. Exposure for even one second is bad.

Where are their servers? The review lists some general locations. Is there a list somewhere?

Hotspot Shield does not hide your IP address, thus not a true VPN. Check the IP when you have it running and your IP address will still show. I use Cloudnymous, a free or pay service, depends on which server you connect to.
