Heck, we should expect a 1080p screen, SSD, backlit keyboard, and touchscreen, too.

You're the whiner here.

Laptops with processors with similar performance have been $250. This is worth a mention, but noting the processor is a contribution to the discussion (unlike your post and the left handed websurfer after you).

Also, the processor should be in the title, or at least in the first line of the post. Buried in the specs isn't the way to do it.

Keep in mind that this is new, not a refurb like most laptops of this class in this price range.

You obviously have no idea this is a new pentium chip and is not even related.

Good deal. Plenty good for normal use. Its like having 4 of those E series APU AMD cores working for you. Also beats C2D chips while using a lot less power.

FYI this is an Ivy Bridge chip.

This is a very similar chip to a Core i3-3217U, Same clock speed (1.8GHz)
Differences are: L2 cache (2MB vs 3MB).
HD Graphics vs HD4000, same initial speed (350MHz), slighly higher (negligible) GFX Turbo (1000MHz vs 1050MHz). Can't do Clear Video or 3D.

CPU-wise, it'll perform on-par as the Core i3-3217U.

Couldn't have said it better.

Many people on this forum (myself included) are perfectly happy to buy an open box or refurb and pay around this price. However, one would be hard pressed to find this deal on a NEW unit. This is not like the front page ASUS ultrabook. This is more of a traditional laptop (large screen, heavy, DVD, etc.). This is a good deal for someone looking for THIS type of computer, rather than an ultrabook or tablet. On the other end, it also is not going to compete with gaming laptops that cost several times the price.
