Where can I use this phone?

WCDMA 850 / 1700 / 1900
GSM 850 / 900 / 1800 / 1900

1. T-Mobile postpaid or tmobile prepaid
2. T-Mobile MVNO's.
3. AT&T post-paid (After device unlock, will work on 3G/H+)
4. AT&T MVNO's (After device unlock, will work on 3G/H+)

Phone comes locked to TMobile network. See unlocking section to use on other networks.

How do I unlock this phone?

You can also buy an unlock code from one of the multiple vendors online, should you choose not to wait to meet T-Mobile's requirements on having active phone service. That's what I plan on doing, I am unlocking this and using it on AT&T/Straight-Talk and will get 3G/H+ service with them. It has the required frequency bands.

  • T-Mobile has verified usage of the IMEI applicable to the device; and
  • The device has been completely paid for.
  • Exception: Classic plan devices must exceed 18 months since activation.

  • Unless purchased at a T-Mobile-branded store or from a T-Mobile national retailer, for up to 180 days after activation, devices will only work on the T-Mobile network with the SIMs included at activation.

Features

Nokia provides "HERE Drive" that operates as a complete offline GPS Navigation system with turn by turn instructions. No data required except to initially install and download maps (over WiFi).

To transfer data like contacts from older phones that include Bluetooth, check out

Con: Nokia 521 only comes with Single region Map

HERE Drive: provides turn-by-turn navigation in a single country or region. The selected country or region is calculated with the app launching for the first time, taking into account the country the inserted SIM card belongs to.
This is full offline navigation. Also Nokia Maps are available for > 90 countries.

HERE Drive+: turn-by-turn navigation covers almost 100 countries.

Does it require any contract? Even at 150 a few days ago this was a good deal. at 129 it's a steal.

Not technically true. T-Mobile stores do not sell contract services any more, but third party retailers like Wallymart still sells 'Classic' T-Mobile plans with 2-year contracts and subsidized phones.
