Can someone explain the allure of this game to me, as I've got an eight year old nephew who is seriously hooked on it.

It seems like he has a crack habit.
Lol, mine too, and all his friends! I THINK its because kids have huge imaginations and naturally love to create things. This game gives them the ability to create, experience and share their imaginations. There is nothing my kids love more than to show off their minecraft creations to EVERYONE! I think its the most fantastic game ever created for kids and has the potential to make a brighter future for us all by showing children the creative power they have. I credit much of my love for engineering to my childhood addiction to Legos. This has the same benefit, times 1000! I see it as a mind building game. I am SO happy to see the children of today choosing this game over all the millions of braindead, graphics card ability demonstrations from adult's imaginations: the various ways to kill and be killed... Sad that so many adults imaginations have been reduced to such a narrow focus. This game is opening up the minds of the next generation!

My kids, 13 and 11, play this stupid game constantly. I paid $6.99 so they could play on their ipods, and then when we got the Xbox, that was another $20. They've been begging for the Kindle version, and I said no way since I've already bought it twice. For $3.99, I may break down and buy it for the 3rd time, lol. Vacation is coming up, and it would make for a quiet week!

My younger daughter pores over youtube videos to see how others are building their minecraft land...

My kids played this on the pc, then next the xbox, then IOS, then Android! It is too bad, it cannot sync across platforms.

Kids love building cities, downloading other creations kids do (amazing landscapes), and playing their own games.

At first, I did not get it, but I eventually tried it on my own phone and you get sucked into it. I have wasted hours away just trying to get this or that to look right or to find items. The pocket editions is actually a good intro for us know nothing parents because the pc and xbox versions have 100 times more things to do and build, with complicate recipes. Also, you can play with your kid if your on the same network and join games. My son had me join his game just so I could do landscaping and clear trees in the way of his home!

It is a natural transition from legos to Minecraft..

For the price complainers out there, normal PC or console version is like $22, so if you want to do basic building on the go, it doesn't seem that bad...granted I haven't bought it, but that's because I invested in the PC version while in beta lol. Besides if you want to talk about overpriced, I direct you to all the Final Fantasy ports on iOS...
I'm with you. I bought it during Beta and it's nice to have around. Played it solid for a few months, then went to other things, but it's a nice backup to fall to in between games. I'm not sure if the people that are saying the price isnt right have played it or just don't want to deal with it. It's a great game, though I'm unsure how it will do on the Kindle app.

The allure of the game is the ultra simplicity. You want to have 200 weapons and go kill things 100 times your size? That's great. You want to chill out and build a house out of mud or wood before zombies come barging into your doors? That's cool too. It is a lot of the Lego effect. What's the use of building something to take it apart later? Minecraft also combines the whole Lego theme with exploration, hunt/gather/survive experience for an all around, chill out game.

I am still not sure I want it for my Kindle, though, lol. I already have it in my computer. Maybe I'll check out some Youtube videos of the gameplay and if it's alright, I may get it. One can't ever have enough tools to beat long airplane layovers, train rides and Dr Office waiting rooms. bounce

This app shuts my kids up for hours at a time. It's worth $5 million+ if you ask me.

It's not a game app where there's an ending. This goes on forever.

My son (6) just discovered this on the Xbox. It's the first thing that has broke his interest in Skylanders in 18+ months. Minecraft at least has some educational value, once he got over pouring buckets of water and lava over his entire island.

My 7 and 10 year old play this constantly on their iPad Mini's. As much as they have played it, $6.99 was a bargain. Personally I think it's a terrible game...lol.

They got over a dozen games for the xbox at Christmas, plus Minecraft. They've only tried one other game besides Minecraft, and that was Just Dance. We've definitely gotten our money out of Minecraft...

I don't get this game either, does this mean I'm officially out of touch with the younger generation? Lol
