I'm wondering if this will help my situation. We have our cable modem (motorola docsis 3.0) and wireless router (cisco e2000) in a room closet (because my wife doesn't want to look at it). That's the only room that Charter activated the cable internet line. I pay for charter 30mbps, but regularly only get 2-3mbps probably due to the bad wireless signal on the opposite side of the house.
I can't move the cable modem unless I want to pay charter $50 to come activate the living room. I don't want to run a 50+ ft ethernet line from the cable modem to the living room. So can I buy this device, plug it in to the living room, then just plug my wireless router ethernet port into it? Is that all you do? It uses the existing network that was setup?
I just can't imagine it's this easy to move the router to another room...
It isn't really hard to "activate" another room in the house, unless you have something that was built before they wired all the rooms in the house. You could just go to your junction box and either add a splitter to allow the cable to go to all the rooms in the house, or you can just unplug the outside line to the line going to your current room and plug it into the line that would go into the living room (trial and error will determine unless your builder and/or previous owner was nice enough to label everything).
