Just to add some actual real world experience to the speculation...

The works fine if you already have directv and no sunday ticket. I have had directv for years, got this deal, signed up with the username and code, changed those to something easy to remember, and it works fine. Didn't have to call, sign up, play any games with anyone, nothing. 100% online, easy and it works. If you go to the site and sign in and get an error or cant watch, wait a bit as it takes some time for it to kick in especially if you change username/passwords.

Video quality is not as good as the directv hd broadcast, its softer, has some minor jaggies and a little problem with tearing on horizontal panning, especially when there are stripes in the picture. But its pretty decent.

This works fine with tab casting. An i3 is more than enough cpu, thats a 30% load on my i3 desktop. But with a hardwired gigabit connection and very clean wifi (no other devices using it, close to the router, good wireless throughput on the router) the PQ is even softer, has more jaggies and the sound isn't fully in sync but its not off a lot. Its watchable. The audio on the main tv hooked to the desktop goes out, but the picture continues.

Ask any questions in the thread, I'll keep an eye out as I continue to tinker with it.

Personal Clarification - I have used the Web NFL Ticket last year. In order to be eligible to use the internet package you need to be UNABLE to get DirecTV. The good thing is that this isn't a dead deal for any of you. When you call or sign up for the internet only package DirecTV has you confirm that you are unable to get service at your location, this could have been verified by a **3rd party installer** (directv will not have anything on record from their end since they didn't come out for the assessment, and they certainly won't waste man-hours on coming out to check each person's home). You tell them you attempted to get DirecTV, someone came out and told you that you couldn't get signal based on the way your balcony/patio was facing (if you live in an apartment complex), or you tell them the home you are in is a rented home and your landlord won't allow you to get a satellite on the roof and your trees are too high to put it on a tripod. They will have you confirm that you are unable to get service and will allow you to sign up. I had the REAL issue with my apartment complex but my parents own their home and they used the second issue with the trees and no line of sight for signal. We had ZERO issues and it was a smooth process with no hangups at all.

I hope this helps! Good Luck!!!

""There's been a bit of confusion as to what all this means. Yes, DirecTV is doing the deal because it hopes football fans might ditch their cable provider and sign up with them. But even if you live in an area with DirecTV access, and choose not to subscribe, you may still use the code to watch Sunday Ticket games on your computer, tablet or other mobile device. You don't have to subscribe to DirectTV."

I've got Sunday ticket free for the last 2 years through DTV. I'm actually on with them atm trying to get it free again and mentioning this offer through amazon. They have no clue about it, the rep thinks that its not a DTV sunday ticket they are offering......

Easily say you live in an apartment or that your landlord wont allow you. I myself am unable to receive it after having two DirecTV reps come to my house so it's perfect for me! Thanks OP
The big question is how are they going to verify this before sending the codes?

I am thinking that DirecTV is going to do some sort of address check to make sure you can get it in their area, then give you the code for #1.

If you can't use it that's not their fault.

I can't imagine they are going to verify thousands of orders to determine the correct code manually.

Sounds about right but how can they know whether or not you can get the service based on your living situation? Like I was saying a rep and supervisor came out and both said I couldnt get DirecTv because there was no line of sight. This will be interesting for sure. Either way it's not like we are being charged for it today. I'd rather lock in now and cancel if I have to later.

Your area doesn't matter. Satellite television is available nationwide. The availability of the service will depend on any restrictions you may have that would prevent you from having a satellite dish (landlord won't allow it, apartment, you live in a very wooded area that would prevent a very weak signal, you have monkeys living on your roof, etc).

Also for those of you who live in an HOA area (home owners association) can you just claim that they dont allow dishes to be set up? Wondering if this will work.

You can claim it, but I wonder if they will say BS and make you prove it somehow.

I'll be in now & see what happens. I dont mind fighting with Amazon that the owner of my home wont allow the dish on the property. I mean, me AND my wifes names are on the mortgage, so they can just give me Option 3.
