WARNING... I suggest checking on inventory with FreedomPop before delivering for more insight. Devices are on back order still but they are filling them in order and they do seem to be going out. Ordered mine June 15th and got mine in about 3.5 weeks. They comped me 1GB extra and $10 acct credit balance are being comped for Overdrives (not pros) that are still back ordered

Just an FYI: Please note that these are refurbished/used (scratched but working) devices.
Q: Does anyone want to share their emails so we can all connect and get more MB usage? Is that allowed?
A: See post for FreedomPop Friends: https://slickdeals.net/f/5276432-FreedomPop-Friends?v=1#post_message_53620526
B: See video http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=1ARO5fXTCo0

Your subscription begins when you click Activate. It will ship 27 days after you buy it, but that is your "free" month!- FreedomPop has stated several times in the later part of the thread and on their blog that trials are being extended and "Plan period will start after the shipping date (not the purchase date)."

link to blog: http://blog.freedompop.com/we-are-listening/

They maybe clearing these out to make way for LTE enabled devices that are coming later this year:

This deal is best for those who will use ONLY 4G, and will keep their usage between 5 and 500 MB/month.
-If you want to use 4G only, you can downgrade to the 500MB/month plan (free if you use between 5MB and 500 MB/month, $0.99 as a maintenance fee if you use less than 5MB/month).- Maintenance fee has been discontinued, see below "Why why i charged .99 cents"
-If you want to be able to use 3G and 4G, or only 3G, you need to pay for a plan that starts at $3.99 for 500MB/month.

Defective Chargers: Some batteries/ chargers have been reported as defective or not working. Email or pm them to get a Free replacement + Free shipping of replacement.

FAQs

Is data rounded to the nearest megabyte?
Data usage is never estimated when calculating for pay as you go or plan data charges. FreedomPop calculates to the byte, breaks down data usage into 15 minute increments and only charges for actual data used. Data is however rounded on our website's user account pages for easier data monitoring and tracking purposes for our subscribers.

Why was I charged $0.99?
**UPDATE: This fee was discontinued on 6/13/13 according to their blog post [freedompop.com].**
In order to keep our service free, we must offset costs charged to us by our wireless network carrier partners. It is a way for us to provide free data on a daily basis to all active users of our service, which averages over 500,000MBs daily. To prevent this nominal fee, all you need to do is log onto your device and use 5MBs within each billing cycle.
Quote from FreedomPop View Post :
When a user uses less than 5MBs/ month, there can be a $0.99 cent fee to keep your account active. It is easily avoided though by either turning it on and checking a few emails. Another option is to "share data" with another friend and that will count towards "using 5MBs". However, if you absolutely don't think you can use the device each month, you can contact customer service and they can have it waived.
I don't want the service anymore, the device is also mine to keep, now how to I cancel this "free" service so I don't get charged $0.99?/month
Cancel the service. [freedompop.com]

Is there a restocking fee?
Handling and restocking fees will apply and depend on the condition of the returned device. We are charged a fee by our logistics partner to test the device and ensure it is still in working order. This fee is deducted at cost per our T&Cs and is nominal.

Can I bring my own device (BYOD) and use your services?
In order to take advantage of our services, you do have to purchase a FreedomPop device. All devices come with a 30 day return policy and a 90 day warranty. After the initial 30 days, your "Sierra Wireless Overdrive" device is yours to keep.

What happens after my free promotional trial plan is over?
At the beginning of your new billing cycle, the payment method on file will be charged for a new month on this data plan. If you do not wish to continue on this data plan, the plan can be downgraded by contacting our help desk at http://bit.ly/contactfp

What happens when I exceed my data limit?
Depending on if you are on our Free 500MB plan, or any paid plan your account will have additional funds added to your account when you're within 100MBs of your plans total monthly capacity data limit. Once funds are added to your credit account, you will be charged on a Pay As You Go basis. You can opt out of automatic top up service at any time, though you may experience interruption of your Internet service if limited funds remain in your credit account.
If you want to cap your data plan at 500MB (in case you are on that plan), you can disable automatic top up through your Account page under Billing Settings. This forfeits you 100 mb though, your data for the month will be capped at 400MB [freedompop.com]... Your service will be disabled as you approach your limit and when your cycle renews, you'll get a new 500MBs.

What happens to my remaining credit balance?
Any credit left in your account will stay in your account until it is used up; it doesn't expire and it will rollover to your next billing cycle

This is a 3G(Sprint cellular)/4G(WiMAX) device. Why do I only get 4G coverage?
The free data plan is only 4G (WiMAX). You can pay an additional $3.99/month to get 3G (Sprint) coverage but it is not mandatory.

**NOTE** THIS IS FOR THE OVERDRIVE, NOT THE OVERDRIVE PRO.
The Overdrive (non-Pro) is bigger, has a smaller screen, and flatter.
  • PRO: Up to 35% faster boot-up time
  • 45% larger screen
  • Smaller footprint than regular Overdrive
  • Same battery for both devices, but does anyone know if battery operating time is the same?
Overdrive 5 devices and Pro 8 devices connect to hotspot
Overdrive suppost A/B/G and Pro support wireless A/B/G/N

I had a ticket in to their Zendesk. After a quick escalation they told me to send it back, no attempt was made (that I could tell) to adjust the account settings.

Did they at least seem like they understood the issue you were describing? The first reply to my ticket was someone thinking I was wanting downgrade support. I don't know how they got that from my problem description but maybe I wrote it too long and complicated. It was then rescued by Samantha, who was also praised by someone else earlier. Guess we could make her a celebrity around here lol.

It could be there's something wrong with your hardware. It only sounds like a similar issue as mine had but could be totally different.
I do recall the issue you (j-5) were encountering, and I think the agent did make the right move, but we have can someone else take a look at the ticket. I can't recall the number right now off the top of my head, but we try to be really team driven here and everything we hear here we try to let the agent dealing with it through ticket also know.

So this a good item or not? Checked my location on the link and got the no 3g service, which seems odd given that it's a metro area.
What link did you use? www.freedompop.com/coverage only reflects 4G not 3G access. For 3G, you'll have to visit Sprint directly at coverage.sprint.com

Freedompop - I would appreciate your assistance in researching why I can't access the internet. I've had Request #112765 open for a couple days with no response. I would like to use the bonus data that you offered on a trip this weekend, but the clock's ticking on my account, and I can't use the data you offered. Frown

It's the same issue several others have posted on this thread, so I would also suggest that you add a FAQ entry for what to do when you can access device admin, and the 3G connection shows as OK on the device, but you can't access any internet site.

For reference, I'm keeping a journal of my experience in Post 1162

Thanks.

as reported earlier, ever since i got my freedom pop on Thursday it's been exhibiting weird problems, it would only connect to 3g with a 1AMP charger (not the one they provided) and WITHOUT the battery inserted (put in the battery and it would say battery low critical, restart)......actually even with a 1AMP charger it would struggle to get to the 3g connection screen (loop/restart several times)....with a 2AMP charger it would connect to 3g faster (restarting maybe once)......so i thought i had figured the problem: it was a bad battery and the charger that came with it was too weak.....

on friday with this setup it was working partially, but for whatever reason would mysteriously restart often, causing the tablet to reconnect to my work wi-fi ...............

it got worse on saturday, the instant i tried to access a website or refresh a webpage, the freedom pop would restart itself.....

alas that's not the worst part, saturday night when i tried to plug the charger in, i was plugging into an empty hole!! the charging port had broken off and disappeared, talk about bad hardware and software....i give up... it's nothing but headache, they sent me a heavily used malfunctioned unit with a bad battery returned by a previous user........i have a ticket submitted on Friday and it's not been answered, do they even have a number we can call ?

Request #109569 follow-up to request #102347

It's pretty frustrating to be out $40 now and 2 months of nothing while watching other people get a better device cheaper and quicker. Now I have 3 days left on my twice extended "free trial" and awaiting a downgrade so I don't get charged more.

Has anyone had any luck with this device in a 3G only area? I'm not in a Sprint 4G LTE / WiMax area currently, but would love to use this for mobile computing! VERY INTERESTED TO HEAR SOME SUCCESS STORIES! Smilie

I finally got a chance to try mine for more than a quick trip to town. Battery was out in a half hour. Plugged it into the same charger as my HTC thunder bolt, and got a "critical battery temp unplug charger" error. It seems as it gets hot signal drops. So on my 4 hr trip, I sent more time cycling the charger than listening to Iheart radio. What part was refurbed, I can not say. It was not the battery.

I got the same problem.
I have a overdrive and a overdrive pro.
The problem is on at overdrive.
I have to put my battery to overdrive pro to recharge it.

Sounds like a lot of problems with their refurb units.

The problem with refurb devices is that if somebody returned one with an intermittent problem you will probably inherit their problems. If a return is completely dead and then fixed then you have a better chance of getting a 100% working unit.

I doubt they are "extensively testing" the returns before saying they are refurbs and sending them out again.

If they claim they are extensively testing these returns, then they need to investigate why so many refurbs that are sent out are having problems...the testers are not doing the testing correctly or there is a design problem.

Many SDers that are having problems here should not have to put up with having such a difficult time getting things working...

Over this, Customer Service just asked me to do the same song and dance to get the useless, refurbished item to work. Basically I am throwing in the towel, either they send me a new hotspot or I will just get a refund. Tried to be patient but they just will not give me the service.

The 3G only works well. I use an overdrive pro. I used to have an overdrive with sprint, and switchover woudl take a while. It's pretty fast on the pro. The pro also boots up faster.
If you want the 3G, you pay 3.99 more per month on your 500mb.

I don't see why I should not return mine.
I asked which would ship first OD or OD+, OD+ was 1 month Back ordered. od would ship next week. (shipped a month later via smart post).
I tried to cancel before they shipped that day. Magically it shipped 9pm that night.
I recieved a un refurbed POS...

I tried it extensively for the last 2 weeks on the road and it sucked. week coverage, overheating, ect..

The 30 days guaranty is about up, so Its time to cut losses. I will have to eat $10 loss for the 1 week smart post shipping, and a restock fee, but what the heck, it does not work well enough anyway so getting any money back is better than nothing.

Oh yea the thing that sealed my decision is when the CS told me they had no replacement batteries, but expect more soon.. I heard that about a month before I got the dam worthless thing. DAH! look at the complaints and the dates! you have had a month already to get the batteries that were omitted on a refurbishment of unknown definition that every is complaining about.

I wish you guys well at FP, and hopefully the BYOD or the phone deal will get the resale of data Business model, or the Email address collection and resale part to work for you, but the delay of shipping, the quality of the device I received, the lack of even 3g coverage on that device I received that I have used for the last 2 weeks, has led me to the decision.

Its going back. I cant wait a month for a battery and loose the return option. Heck If I waited a week, I would have gotten a new ODPro at 1/2 the cost! I bet that had a new battery.

You guys who are waiting for a device, mine should be back in stock in a week or so, so chin up! Your turn to return is next.

i've had refurbs from sony, canon, acer, HP etc. that look and work like new....shoot even the quality of refurbs performed by private sellers on ebay are much better than this freedom pop....

the difference is many quality refurbs are sourced from lightly used customer returns, in contrast the freedom pop refurb i got is heavily used, scratched up, with an old battery, and a charging port that's broken on the 3rd day of use because most likely it has been pushed and pulled too many times by the previous customer.....

the truth is the unit i got is no way refurbished, but well-used worn-out customer return thrown in a fancy box with a refurb seal on it........today i was told to send this POS back at my expense.....since.they don't have any new units they 'll just send another POS refurb
