It will work for 96+ cars. 99% of them are OBDII which is the protocol this uses.
If you are lucky there are very few cars that were OBDII prior to '96 (I remember Toyota doing this)

Thanks OP and TU. Never seen one of these at this price point, ever. Not much $$ risk, overseas ship may take some time. Sure looks like the Amazon unit with mostly positive reviews.

Sorry I'm an old dude and not real up to date on technology but is this something you plug into your car and then it displays the codes and stuff onto an ipad or laptop?

It's bluetooth so you connect your device (i.e. ipad or laptop or android phone) and get the codes off your car.

No promises for this exact model, but it should. I have a similar one that works great with my 8th gen civic! This should work with anything after 1996 (?)!

I see quite the listing for those OBDII units. Anyone have any idea what's the differences are between them?

I have something similar, great investment. Saved myself a few hundreds already, rather than being lied to at the auto shop.

I think mostly they are just a bunch of different Chinese companies trying to sell the same/similar units. If you get one that works you are usually good to go.
