Thread to tell people about a good stock you see, or think will be good
give it to me, or put it in the wiki, in this form to make it easy. I think this forum would be good for the "Hey I got 6k what should I invest in" threads we see all the time, as people will tell you why they like it and what they expect it to be.

VIX: annualized natural log of (S(T)/S(T-1))

T = time
S(T) = S&P index point
I don't believe that is correct, or you are completely oversimplifying

I see I always thought Vix is valuation on stock price instead of option.
But essentially it's a log distribution

natural log take out the exponential (exp^rt - compound int) and I am just calculating a single point. Obviously you'd need summation.

I agree with your log assertion and as you now know it is based on option prices.

yah, that's what i said, i thought it's based on stock price but it's actually based on option. As volatility is calculated by price movemnt without dividend & int. it would be pretty simple

In this case they just brought option into play, which I could probably figure out 2 yrs ago. Now, not so much.

I don't think it is all that difficult...plug and chug really based upon that formula worksheet I linked you earlier.

Anyone looking into NDLS the fast casual noodle restaurant, IPO last Friday was up the last few days. Did a pretty big mid-day reversal today.

Some interesting notes:
  1. The CEO was previously a COO at Chipotle. The COO was previously an executive (or management position) at companies like KFC, McDonalds, Big Sky Bread, Checkers.[1]
  2. Used 66M of the 75M raised to paid down debt, with a mature date of August 2017.[2]
  3. 84% Company Owned Stores vs 100% Company Owned Chipotle Stores[2]
  4. 327 stores (vs Chipotle's 481), averaging 1.2M- 1.4M per store, with average sale person of $8 - $12.[2]
  5. 1.7% Profit Margin vs 10.2% Chipotle & 8.1% Panera Bread[3]

He clearly doesn't know about the way the IPO's are priced, as the commenters pointed out.

I think some of the commentors are off base. For the initial reaction to the IPO and the days since it was clearly very underpriced. Thus leaving money on the table for the company.

You are way over complicating it. Go look at the 3 step process. It isn't difficult.
