this is an Awesome read on Dewalt VS. the rest [dewaltownersgroup.com] (its is now a bit dated with Brushless motors BUT i think Dewalt will still kick !@#)

not to mention the known design flaw that leads to failure on TOO MANY Makita batteries

Been looking for the impact driver specifically, and always wanted the reciprocating saw. This is a much better deal than buying individually and gets me 2 extra batteries. Maybe I can sell the drill on craigslist or something since I already have one.

I'm not a contractor/construction worker so I don't care about NiCad batteries being heavier. In fact, the NiCad batteries last a lot longer (almost twice as many recharges and will last more years if not used up via recharges), which is a plus in my book.

DeWalt nicads are much better than most other brands, IMO. If you're an average homeowner, this kit is a great value - plenty of power, and 2 batteries will be fine unless you're working on a very large project. I will say that the reciprocating saw eats a lot more charge than the drill or driver.

This has not been my experience with NiCad at all. My Lithium has lasted twice as long as any NiCad battery I've ever had. I'm not a contractor but do use my tools more than the average home owner.

My opinion is don't waste your money on this set. Buy a nice Lithium drill and impact combo with two batteries for $200 and spend $30 on a cheap corded recipricating saw since batteries in a saw like this aren't going to last long.

Just realized the included NiCads aren't the same as the 18v XRP ones that I have for my other tools. I'm still getting the kit for the tools, but don't expect these batteries to be as good. Maybe that's why people's opinions on NiCad vs Lithium are so different.

How about some contractor input..

I'm an electrician and have been for years. My company uses Dewalt as our primary, we are in the process of switching to 20 volt li-ion but for the last 8 years or so maybe more we have used NI-Cad and honestly out of 18 drill sets. Some hammer some not, some XRP, saw-zall(recip saw), impacts(newer as in last 2 years) and multiple other dewalt tools.

The Ni-cad batteries depending on the tool can last almost a whole day, but same for the 18 volt lithium replacement battery dewalt sells.

I just recently disposed of 2 6 year old batteries and still have many more of the originals that hold a charge wonderfully.

The batteries and power tools are awesome.

The link doesn't seem to work with the Lowes mobile site (404 Not Found error) but it worked for me when I switched my browser to desktop mode.
