got xfinity blast (50mb down, 10mb up).

how much better would 8 channels be? Or rather is 4 channels really that limiting?
It's only better if your provider supports 8-channel bonding in your area at your class of service.

If they do the difference would then still be dependent upon how well they've managed capacity in your area.

If your issue is intermittent speeds to certain sites then you've probably got other things ("the internet") to troubleshoot. If your issue is a general slowing of service during peak hours (Friday night, Saturday night) and assuming all the answers to the first line are YES then you might see an improvement (given the variability of the second line).

Good luck!

I got a new 6141 on eBay for $65, not sure why this is fp
same here, for me it was worth the extra $11 to have a new in box newer model.

I think you're referring to the "black" version of the 6141 which is essentially a "heavily used" router from an ISP sold on either ebay or Amazon. I have one of these, and they suck. Did a diagnostics check with a Moto rep and it appeared the resistor was already over-heating causing un-reliable connection.

The "white" version is where it's at but good luck getting that thing anywhere near the price of the 6121.
This common myth about the black units is BS, and it keeps coming up in every thread about the 6141.

It is true that the black version is only packaged by Motorola for ISPs and not retail sale. And it is is true that some sellers on eBay and Amazon Marketplace sell used units that are in crappy condition. However, the black version absolutely is available brand spankin' new to consumers from many online sellers. The electronics in both the black and white versions are identical.

Good deal, thanks OP. May end up getting one so I don't have to rent one from my isp.

Why buy this when you can get the DPC3010 for 30 bucks?

Any concerns with this being a "black" unit vs the white one? They say it's new, just no Motorola warranty.

Also, ok if we're not advanced stream customers? Would it work with other providers?
I dunno I just ordered it 30 min ago and I'm not their customer. Worst they cancel my order and refund me the money.

Noob : So I need a wireless router as well right? Please recommend a really good router that doesn't cost too much.....Going for Comcast 50mbps...
I would love an answer to this question also. I have this modem with Cox 35mbps service and I lose connection constantly with netflix or xbox live. I have a good router I think, the D-link DIR-655. Of course the cable company blames the router, anyone have some advise? Thank you in advance.

Here [comcast.net] is the Comcast supported modem list
You can pick your "service" level and it will narrow down the choices for you.

TW list is here [timewarnercable.com]

I looked for the Charter supported list and noticed this

Note: Effective June 26, 2012 For new Internet Customers and customers switching to our New Package Pricing, we will no longer allow customer-owned modems on our network. In order to provide our customers powerful and reliable Internet service at a great value, we will provide modems included in Internet pricing under our New Package Pricing.

That was found on http://www.myaccount.charter.com/...ablemodems

Does Charter not allow you to have your own modem? Do they charge a monthly fee for the one they provide?

Cox has an approved list [cox.com] but you have to enter your Zipcode first

I bought one a these last time it was this price(used-like-new)... runs great, no heat problems, self installed on Comcast in a few minutes... giving me all the speed I'm paying for.

Would totally recommend.

Even if you don't need DOCSIS 3.0 because you don't have a higher speed package, if you're already in the market for a modem it may be a better deal to go ahead and upgrade. My friend bought the cheapest modem she could last year when she moved and recently got a notice that they are withdrawing support for her modem within the next few months. (This is Comcast) Pretty much all the 3.0 models will continue to be supported. She wishes she had sprung for it then because it was actually not much more expensive.
