I pulled the trigger...literally

41,172 2,080 June 19, 2013 at 01:09 PM in Finance
Bought my first firearm. Should pick it up at the dealer in a couple of days. Couldn't find one locally.

Springfield XDm 9mm. It felt best in my hand after shooting it, Glock 17 and 19, a Sig, and a couple of others.

It's my first gun, so don't give me a hard time about it being only a 9mm. Annoyed

Whee <--- anti-Podium spray

One thing about a long gun: I'm right handed but left-eye dominant. I'd need to shoot left-handed, right?
Just get a laser sight...then it wont matter Stick Out Tongue

I'd say yes, but I'm not sure, holding it in your left could be more awkward then the bad eye sight.

congrats on the purchase; i've heard lots of good things about Springfield pistols, and my limited experience with them has been positive. almost got one for my carry, but the Glock felt better in my hand.

i tried shooting a Ruger LCR and a couple other small .380s as options for carry, but i just hated the feel. i carry my Glock 19 with me almost everywhere i go, and while it's not exactly a pocket gun, it stays concealed with an IWB holster and a normal t-shirt. might go to a 26 at some point, but i could also see myself keeping the 19 for a long time.

wife and i both have our carry guns and we have a shotgun for home defense, so my next will probably be a Ruger MkIII .22 for plinking.

. The shotgun would be best if your daughter is in her room as it'd power is disipated over a spread as opposed to a single bullet, and it's easier to hit a target in the dark with a shotty.
Buckshot penetrates pretty well - walls or people, doesn't matter. Birdshot doesn't penetrate either. The idea of "point and aim anywhere and you will hit" is not really true either.

Actually I intended to comment about why someone would buy from Gander Mtn (prices always seem to be very high)...then I googled that gun. Big Grin

Where can I get a concealed carry permit for those?
Pass constitutional carry like all states should have in the first place and you wouldn't need a permit.

Well, you would still need a permit since it's a grenade, not a gun, but just sayin'.

Not sure if I like shoulder stock better than mine being a solely a pistol grip. I think for home defense the shouuld stock could get in the way? Any opinions on this?
Two main things about no stock are accuracy and recoil. If you're fine with those, then I guess you're fine. Barrel length is the main consideration for home defense, I'd say. I'd also say shotguns are overrated for home defense.

And speaking of that, if people haven't seen the Joe Biden shotgun link in my sig, with women shooting shotguns, you might find it interesting.
